2017 is drawing to a close.
How are you feeling? Are you more or less prepared than this this time last year? What do you see in store for 2018? What is the prep you would most like to focus on in the coming year?
For me, 2017 was about losing weight and improving my physical fitness. It was a bit of a roller coaster, but I’m down 20+kg and have been cycling a lot more than I have in the past 20 years.
My overall knowledge base continues to grow, but my family (and I) have hit our food stores and toiletries pretty hard over the past year. I encouraged this at first, concluding that an 18-24 month stockpile was a bit excessive, but when I happened upon my wife using freeze dried beef as dog food and giving away boxes of canned goods for school food drives, I realised we had over corrected a bit too far. We still have many months of food and quite a bit of toiletries in storage, but I rarely buy anything or replace anything at this stage. If/when we get down to 2-3 months, I’ll start paying a lot more attention. At present, we could eat Macaroni and Cheese for a couple months!
I’m excited to become an Australian citizen next month (on Australia Day), not the least because I’m worried that the US and N. Korea/China are on the verge of something ugly. I also think the real estate bubble in Australia is on the verge of a collapse.
I’m looking forward to expanding my knowledge of local flora and fauna and learning more about edible plants - which I have more of at my home than I realised.

I figure early to mid- March at the latest when Kim and the kiddies start the music!

Great thread - thanks.
Well, for me, I finally purchased a 10kva generator, got some 5 jerry cans of fuel, more gas bottles and cartridges, added about another 2 months of food to my supermarket. Also started to sus out a few places to go in a shtf situation.

I pushed food storage hard waiting for imminent financial collapse. Built a lot of food storage shelving that has since filled up. Rotation is now becoming an issue.
2018, Might look at getting small property for bugout, or does one put the money into solar off grid system... too many hard decisions.

I am so far ahead of where I was a year ago it's not funny, heck I don't even lust after any guns now (although that new Ruger precision 22 looks nice) We are now growing food and have almost finished all building projects. I need to work more on spending time in the field, but overall I'm well happy with where we are at.

Interesting when you feel your making no/ little progress and then u reevaluate the last year( or a friend remarks on how much you’ve done) Makes u feel better- though still heaps more to do

In 2017 we moved from a city to a country town within hiking distance of family, I guess that was our single biggest prep. I lost much of my food stash when we moved (couldnt ship it interstate safely) but it is mostly better now
Not much else though, just lots of decluttering and reducing down to stuff we can look after plus spares, not just random stuff we forgot about or will never use (because it is in too safe a "safe place for later")...

I love those too safe spaces lol I have spent the year decluttering last year and the house is almost done but the Garage is so packed and its not something I can get into without hubby lol. But even doing that we still have too much stuff.
