It's disturbing to see the recent vilification of our own VC hero, Ben Roberts-Smith, by the liberal media in our country. They did an extensive hatchet job on him. Journos who have no concept of the brutality of close quarters combat should keep their mouths shut and be grateful men like Ben are willing to risk their life to keep the rest of us safe. As are now our own NZ SAS squadron for a raid on a Taliban villlage 3 years ago in which apparently some 'innocent civilians' were killed (and from all accounts by a US gunship in overwatch!) ...and all for the sake of book sales (I wont give the name and advertise it) for a meat flogger (polite word) by the name of Nicky Hager... This clown some years ago (in conjunction with other tossers like Amnesty) released the names and addresses of war-zone deployed serving soldiers (not just squadron families I might add) and the media printed it...like sending an invitation to all the mad mullahs in our country to visit their families is how I saw it... In a past time a) the media wouldnt have touched it because it was putting someone at risk, b) media editors would have rung the cops to sort the informant out and c) after a 'visit' (in conjunction with a tonging up) by the Police the court would have slung his arse in the great grey house... Now, nothing!...its not without just cause to cry for 'the good old days' sometimes...

What about those of us who are atheists and also refuse to follow popular culture or worship any celebrity figure? Sure there are people that I admire and wish to emulate or even have half the talent or knowledge of (most certainly not any actor or sports "hero") but definitely do not worship them. I saw a video on You Tube by a US Marine ( high ranking officer ) at a US College graduation. His speech was excellent. His main point " Just be a good human being". I think this covers all beliefs, regardless. There are in fact some true good sorts left in the world...look at us! Lol

I've been to Bree Till's house quite a few times. She is the widow of Brett Till, an EOD killed in Afghanistan. She was such a nice person, didn't deserve the hate mail she got from that crazy muslim who was eventually shot dead in the Lindt Cafe seige. The courts let him off on the vile letter charge. I hope that judge doesn't have the gall to show his face on Anzac Day. I think that we could probably tell a few stories about similar events! I am all for free speech, but, being biased, hands off the ADF, the returned Vets, and those who died.

SO i try to follow these rather than, "Wow I can wiggle my butt just like Miley Cyrus does!" or "I style my makeup the way the Kardashians do!" I know right! It's hardly some big achievement to wiggle your butt like Miley... She's no Lexy Panterra.

I think most sports 'stars' need a swift kick up the backside. I don't care how many followers people have on twitter or instagram. A funny story that got very awkward at the end We were having a BBQ at a mates house to welcome home his brother to whom most just thought he had moved back from being interstate
So we were all standing around making small talk chewing the fat as you do when the subject of footy came up well everyone got involved talking about their favourite team then players The term "warriors " started to get tossed around a fair bit how they go out on the football field and go to battle like warriors my mates brother interjected and said "No they are highly skilled well paid and very devoted sports stars "
someone else said "nah they are warriors mate ! " to which he replied Nope sports stars just sports stars not warriors
then the same random decides to defend his idols and say I bet if you spent 5 minutes on the field with them you say they are warriors !
The reply he got just instantly silenced everyone and made for a very awkward moment The returned brother simply said "I have recently retired from serving this nation I have served with our most elite service and had the displeasure of taking human life on multiple occasions including in hand to hand combat I AM A F*CKING WARRIOR they are sportsmen so while they chase balls I took life this is the difference between a sportsman and a warrior"
I couldn't help myself I laughed like the idiot I am and simply said "you not only got told dude you got owned "
ironically its the only time he has mentioned that he has served but darn it was funny

Lol when you're young, dumb and full of rum you don't need much motivation π The first concert I ever went to was a Metallica concert....I only wish I was older than 15 at the time π

but I do look back on the local bands that I used to hang with and it saddens me how so many of them never got that break
the days when people went to music festivals for the music and vibes and not a selffie or smart phone insight

That guy in the second video "it's just a front for the real shit they sell" πππ never heard of the LDO but went to a couple of BDO's π I'm definitely thankful that most of our running amok was done before someone decided it was a good idea to put cameras into phones....or even before everyone had a mobile phone!

The little day out events were awesome sort of a home grown thing where it started small as a bit of a rebellion against the southern states getting all the big music events and it grew from there till it reached a point no where was big enough to hold it so it was canned due to insurance issues and basicly the local government hated the fact it was a massive love and drug fest where everyone had a great time even the metal heads It was pulling big names in the end like Killing Hedi Savage garden The cruel sea DJ Bexta 28 days powderfinger
I do miss those days when it was a lot less complicated

I agree with all the above and can't really add anything, except to say that if you have to idolize one of these "celebrities" then you are seriously lacking something...probably self esteem.

As an aside to this story (which I total agree with) I have struck the situation with a new employer (I was at a Hire firm as a service tech) who, knowing my previous occupations from my CV (Policing, Active Soldiering, Firefighting etc blah blah) would constantly say to me 'you need to forget your pastlife' when I was explaining why Id done some particular action or particular customer interaction... Ultimately I turned to him and said politely but firmly 'you actually know nothing about my past life mate so get off using that expression'...maybe it was the look in my eyes but to this day hes never chanced his arm (in fact hes been a lot more pleasant!)... Those that have never served their community (and that certainly isnt actors or sports people!) should be wary of casting aspersions on those that have...in saying that, yet again, it seems to be everyones right these days to have an opinion, loudly proclaimed, when they actually have no f*ckn knowledge about what theyre basing their opinion on!
