My water storage got put into use as of yesterday. I've been washing out all the gin and rum bottles that I finish and fill with clean tap water. I give them a few washes over a few weeks before using for storage. Wife used to ask why I kept the bottles. Now she knows... This is a kind of prepping that you can really enjoy.

Yes. "Just going to the bottle shop to get some more water storage, honey. Back soon!" I saw a tip to use white vinegar to get rid of the plastic smell in water drums. Might work on glass too or it might just make it stink of vinegar. Dunno. I will try it on some Aus army water bottles and see if that yucky smell goes away. They are really strong bottles but the smell is not nice.

We had a laugh over this one as we’re on tank water anyway , but as of 1:00pm Sat we still have no mains power since Thursday evening , so glad I didn’t listen to the wife back then and bought the gene ( 6kva) when we did it’s been running like a champ since thurs night with the exception of shutdown to cool down before refueling it .
Also running the kings battery boxes with a few deep cycle batts from work and the 4m dimmable led strip lighting around the house and we’re sitting pretty well compared to others

Yes. "Just going to the bottle shop to get some more water storage, honey. Back soon!" ROFL. You know that Europeans drank mild alcohol as a normal thing in cities/ships for eons instead of water for it's safety. [and fun I suppose] Yeah, the house was like.. oh we have to boil water etc... I just went and got some 10L drums and said, this is exactly what they're for. We'll just refill them and store when the water is clean again.

It might be worthwhile to go through the procedures of boiling water for a day or two so you can work out exactly what to do and the easiest way to do it with what you have on hand.

They are really strong bottles but the smell is not nice. I haven't had any issues with taste as I leave them full after washing for a few weeks, tip out, rinse then refill. I only put it into storage if I can't taste anything in the water. A bit time consuming but works well.
