Can do both, no? Being able to strike a conversation about any number of topics and being likeable to the point where someone wants to help you is the point.
For example a mentor of mine has taken it upon them self to find opportunities for me to increase my income by 50% this year.

Most mentors will do that if their junior listens and respects them. Be a smart arse and you get nothing but a bad review.

I think what d is getting at is perhaps something that a lot of us do unconsciously as preppers. Being the grey man means being able to mirror others. Make yourself likable and appealing to those around you. Make you the person that people think of as a 'decent sort' so that if something goes awry or you need help (or a payrise lol) you have a better chance of having people being willing to help out.
No good expecting an abundance of rounds to make your position comfortable if you can't afford to buy them. Community is important too, and part of that is the tribe around you that are willing to go into bat for you. We all have to be somewhat likable to an extent to have any sort of community. Whether it's a friends group, a MAG, a club... Anything that assists us to either get prepared or remain prepared will generally involve more than just ourselves. No man is an island unto himself, no matter how much he tells himself that. Or herself. You know what I mean 🤣.
So practicing being a 'good person' to endear yourself to others is absolutely something that I think should be important to every prepper. If not because it's nice to be liked, then for the simple sake of having other options open to you when you need help. I'm not talking about manipulating others (although the pessimist in me says that during SHTF that should be a part of anyone's skillset if they intend to interact with other people) but having the ability to communicate effectively to achieve your desired outcome is important whether it's in the workplace or not.

Most mentors will do that if their junior listens and respects them. Be a smart arse and you get nothing but a bad review. Depends on your relationship- My mentors help me in areas I’m not as experienced in and I help them in areas I’m more experienced in.

The irony is this thread about networking was started by someone I find divisive and argumentative.

The irony is this thread about networking was started by someone I find divisive and argumentative. That’s because you can’t see a forest for the trees. But the irony of your coming in here to accuse me of being argumentative is pretty fun.

What about your teeth ?
WTSHTF, you will need them, even more so than now. Are they OK, or just hanging in there ?
Time for the dentist to get ours up to scratch, as when the collapse happens, I suspect we will be busy doing survival stuff rather than teeth, and dentists may be hard to find.
The formal term is Bovine fecal material....
