What would that gennie power?? Also, loved the look of that portable heater runs off butane cartridges! I see a trip to Vic this weekend! Be more agricultural based mate. Not the best option for the van. Them heaters, i have a Companion brand one. Its awesome. What you need to look for is the safety features. The companion one i have had both a mercury switch (incase it tips over) and an O.D.S (oxygen depletion sensor) for when the O2 gets low, it flames out. It also sells for $149. Even after this, they do not recommend it it used inside tents or vans. The "Jackaroo" brand butane cartridges from Kmart work the best, the use every ounce of gas, where the likes of the campmaster brand from BigW/Supercheap/BCF always seem to have a bit left in them when they flame out. Overall, for what they are they work great.

Great reply, and thanks mate. I also use the KMart bottles, as well as the ones from Masters. I have found these both to empty completely as well.
I reckon if I can convince the cook to take a 2 hr drive, I'm going to get one! In my shed I have a campmaster kero heater - works great, just that kero is a bit expensive, about $5/litre. In bulk have to buy min. 50 litres - a bit steep for what we use it for. I buy the 1 litre bottles at woolies for $4.60.

Oh hell yeah, for the price it would be well suited for a general purpose gennie. I'd grab one if i had the cash.

I wouldn't even go past the food that they have there. Some good food there to stockpile.

I wouldn't even go past the food that they have there. Some good food there to stockpile. Yeah, about 1 yr ago bought some tins of Pasta & Pork Bake - we all loved it, but they don't carry it any more. But, the tinned food is much cheaper than Woolies/Coles/Foodland/IGA. It's just getting my head around not buying Aussie produced food, but, we are helping to keep an Aussie in a job! Like you said, the camping stuff looks really good - I have the gennie and gas heater on my wish list!!

Jay: Gennie is rated at 2000W, you could run heaps on that. Easily a fridge, charging phones, lights, power tools, welder, whatever really, almost as much juice as you can get out of a household circuit. [Usually 10Amp, which is 2400W]. At 50% load [1000W], drinks 15L/13hrs; 1.1L/hr. A fridge could be cooled a few times a day to save fuel. Washing machines could be run and having seen how washing used to be done, where the whole day was dedicated to it, this alone would be worth the 1-2L of fuel/week.
Ausprep: [Wayne] The solar chargers only have a very small surface area so you might be a little disappointed in the charge rate bud.

That just sux ............... there are no Aldis in Tassie they seem to be ignoring my emails that Woolies and Coles need competition here in the form a a few Aldis Could easily spend a few hundred/thousand there if I had it On the up side I will be in Qld at the end of the year the van may be stopping at an Aldis near Melbourne for a major stock up before continuing onto the Spirit and back into Tassie. We don't even get those Heinz cans of spaghetti and beans with the sausage and bacon in here what's that like guys?

solar charger - didn't see them but as I said to Ausprep[wayne], the surface area is pretty small so would take a long time to charge. folding shovel - grabbed 2 and for $4, they're better than I thought they would be and can't beat the price. water carrier - grabbed 4. 20L, cheap and light, 1 ea in the BOB as extra storage.
anyone look at there 10 man tent?? - Looked at it and had already done my budget. Looked pretty nice really. air mattress?? - self inflating, seemed reasonable sleeping bag?? - They look pretty reasonable, but I have 4 sleeping bags and 2 people.

managed to get there (about time)
future reference all solar chargers were sold out within 20 mins of trading (a not so busy store)
the tent looks grate (the price range for similar tents in $$ bracket is 350+) so will wait till aldi puts them on clearance (they had heaps)
sleeping bags look good and tonnes of stock so will wait for clearance on them to (a few weeks)
the water carrier got the last one (but it was in sleeping bag stock) looks good (Kmart sells for $10 each for a 10l one)
picked up the kettle to, looks solid
and the picnic blanket (for other activities) but looks grate
