As would I, they must be around although I confess I've not looked. I think the key word is "homesteading", there are certainly a lot of blogs, dunno if I have seen any forums but they must be around. Well we have a homesteading sub-forum here, although it's lumped in with gardening at the moment. ausprep.com/board/5/gardeningI'll look at splitting it off into its own section. The concept of Homesteading is something we are looking at as a family so I'm certainly keen to be part of discussion around the subject.

www.infowars.com/now-theres-not-even-soap-maduro-heads-to-china-to-save-socialist-utopia-venezuela/Social media is awash with striking images of #EmptyShelvesInVenezuela (#AnaquelesVaciosEnVenezuela) as the evaporation of basic human staples such as toilet paper has now been hyperinflated to total chaos at warehouses and supermarkets. As President Maduro decries the loss of $100 oil “stability”, vowing to return oil prices to their rightful places (and heads to China for help), lines reach for miles for milk and soap… and the people defy governmental bans on photographing empty market shelves… “We couldn’t find shampoo, so we washed our hair with soap. Now there’s not even soap.” (It's worth following the link for the whole story)

These are some great ideas. My wife is big on the shed home idea as well.

I've been considering getting a decent block of land out west, for the meantime to make a little cash off it allowing hunters to pay a camping fee to go there, and also somewhere I can go if needed. Just be careful if you go with that plan. If hunters know you have land and there is good game on it, if TSHTF it will be one of the first places they will head for, and if they have more firepower than you, it won't be yours for very long.

I've been feeling very strongly lately that we need to sell our suburban townhouse, kill off our debts and then just get some land with whatever money's left so that we are debt free. If the coming collapse is as bad as everyone says, I want to know we're beholden to no-one, even if we're living in a tent or a shed.

I've heard good stuff about the Maxxis tyres as well. A couple of the guys I hunt with have them and they are off-raod a fair bit.

How long can you store fuel in jerry cans before it goes "off"? From memory, the recommendation is to rotate your fuel stores every six months.

You are alone, driving out of state when all of a sudden your car dies. You realise your car died and so did everyone else's. Nobody's phones are working. You have the sinking feeling that an Electromagnetic Pulse went off. You are surrounded by strangers from all walks of life. Everyone has very limited resources. Would you join forces or disappear on your own? What would be your main goal after this decision?

Drove out to a friends' property and pitched the tent. Then saw the new year in with them and a mob of other friends on a hill top under the stars. And I got to check out my new sleeping bag - thumbs up. (and yeah that Aldi moscato goes alright).

I have one of those Buck Bones things. Less said about it the better. That full tang though, that's a nice hunting blade right there.

So who got prep-related stuff for Christmas? We had lunch with good friends who are moving toward a more off-grid, self-sufficient lifestyle and who share many of the same concerns and ideals that we do. We talked properties and looked at some rural properties on the net and Mrs Nighthawk made the quantum leap that she would deal with the extra driving to live in the kind of place we eventually want to get set up. So my Christmas gift (apart from my mate's .243 that I'm picking up next month) was approval from the Minister of War and Finance to actively pursue a property where we could be off-grid, grow much of our own food, and maybe even generate some income from the use of the land. How about everyone else?

I'm hearing you AT. Every day I sit there wondering just how long we really have before something somewhere goes seriously pear shaped.

Disappointing that from 330+ members only eight found the time to vote.
