Planner I got planner. But it sounds about right. I look at as many options as possible, in advance, then put whichever option or group of options gives the best chance of survival into practise, while changing as needed.

Good sir, an item you may or may not have considered with your home. 1. you are going to age, thus movement and cleaning requirements for an aging person need to be considered. 2. injury, if you injure yourself permanently (no jinxing though) you need to think of again movement and cleaning requirements.
With all long term (aging) accommodation, these two things need to be strongly considered.
Hoping that helps me ole mate.

Armchair race. I know someone who would be a strong contender for the gold medal. With how bad I feel with the flu atm, the armchair race sounds brilliant. Can I sleep through the event for extra points?

If you can devise a plan, I know of at least half a dozen people who can pick your plan apart in 0.2 seconds.
Here is how I look at it. Bug in. If that fails: Bug out to a friend close by, traveling by back road. If that fails: Bug out with friends close by, to friend further afield, again traveling on any one of about 4 back roads. If that fails: Heading west, to families 60,000 acre farm, set up for isolation.
As for the other stuff, plans are good, but you have to plan for the worst, pray for the best, and you will find your situation sit somewhere in between.

I prepare to be useful to myself and my wife if anything causes disruption to normal services. blackout. fire. flood. civil unrest. economic down turn. epidemic/pandemic. WW3. Zombie apocalypse. loss of job. loss of health.
Pretty much preparing for anything that causes life to go pre industrial.

Redit and facebook are cancelling any and all posters accounts who dare mention the gay bar shooter was muslim. Really? I didn't realise they were *that* ridiculous... It is actually getting that bad. We are in serious trouble.

I attempt to be as generic as possible, this way when the mongrels in Canberra start looking to round people up, I will look extremely boring.

Nah, we just west of the great dividing range, west of Brissy. We got the very edge of what hit the coast. was pitiful, we got told strong winds and 50 or so MM, yet had little more than a breeze and a drizzle.

Looks like the old trick of controlling who can have access to what information is making a comeback. Didn't they learn that it was a bad idea in the 1600's?

We had a massive 23 mm here, drizzled over three days. our massive breeze hardly even moved the leaves on the trees.

Other bad choices include: - Food-growing areas (eg orchards, market gardens, etc). Orchard owners have rifles. And the competition with others will be too great. - Farms. Farmers have shotguns and know how to use them. Do you really think they'll put up with city-folk invading their land? - The beach. You may think you'll be able to live on fish and pigface indefinitely, but again you'll probably get mugged for the fish you've just caught. Unless the lack of potable water kills you first. - Aboriginal communities. Yes, aborigines living a traditional lifestyle have an outstanding chance of survival (face it, it's not their society that's failed). But no-one's ever been able to tell me why they'd accept someone into their tribe without earning their trust for a very long time (and yes, I have personally met white-folk who have been accepted as members of aboriginal tribes. It didn't happen quickly). I have heard each of these expressed as valid options by people who think they've thought of a brilliant idea that no-one else has considered. I would though add a caveat to the "farm" one. If as I do, you have immediate family who own large farms, if you bought use to the farm, ie skills and extra food, they would accept you. This is the arrangement I have with my rellies.
As to a non family owned farm, you could possibly visit and offer assistance over time, then they would most likely welcome you if it happened.
