Its a good point, which is why I still have several good AA torches. Come SHTF I'll grab the 18650's first until I run through those batts which could take weeks with the amount I have now, then I'll move onto my AA's. In practice though I'd likely just charge the 18650 cells from the solar panels, batt and inverter so I really have a "endless" supply of them.
After using 18650 torches torches for everything else in the meantime its hard to go back to a AA torch. The much higher light output and longer run time are extremely useful.

I have a bunch of Eneloop's that I use in some AA torches etc but mostly for photography gear. Eneloop's are a fav with photographers and IMO one of the best proven rechargeable AA's For torches though I mostly use 18650 high cap panasonic cells which kick butt in torches these days compared to AA torches

We need to wake up and bomb ISIS until they don't have anything left other than rocks and sand. Glass is a valid option... +1 Pull the troops back and nuke the site from orbit, its the only way to be sure

Well, seems the best solution then is to close the border and not let anyone in. Should keep the Islamic leaders happy as we are not then being selective and it would sure as hell keep me happy too.

Why is it so damn hard to find a ZEV drop in trigger kit for g17gen4.... ridiculous 8 month backorder is ridiculous What are you guys trying to get your hands on that you just can't find in Aus? Most if not all gun parts I'm after these days are hard to find in Aus. Getting a new slide cover and adjustable target sights for my FN Five Seven was a real challenge. Only one place in the whole damn world that sells the parts and they don't accept foreign credit cards or ship overseas! As for the ZEV trigger kit, check this out www.hyperfire.com.au/handgun-parts/trigger-group/zev-ultimate-gen-4-glock-40-cal-trigger-kit-black-triggerblack-safety-zt-ful-ult-40-4g-bbDoesn't say out of stock so I assume its in stock. Yes its a .40, but the only difference should be a shorter ejector for the longer .40 case. The 9mm and .40 use the same frame. I've used my 9mm top end on a .40 lower and the shorter ejector makes no difference. Actually I think my ZEV kit was a Gen 3 .40 kit Worth doing a little research on anyway if it saves 8 months.

I'd have to agree on PM's being more a financial insurance for after SHTF. During a SHTF I doubt too many people are going to be trading you a weeks supply of food and water for lumps of relatively useless metals etc

Not sure he would really be a threat if he had a firearm, certainly don't think he should own one but he certainly seems the type to buy a rifle bolt on a heap of cheap "tactical" stuff on it and then think he is a sniper. Not the type of person to make the commitment to become a proficient shooter.

I'm sure both of the above would also lead to people buying gear so you can also offer a service of providing all the gear used and demonstrated. Maybe also even offer prebuilt GHB, BOB, First aid kits etc

Well its one thing for people to have preps, its another knowing how to use them. So two things come to my mind.
1. You could run seminars demonstrating how to use gear, start fires and talk about survival aspects in general. A lot of people know you can use bleach to purify water but they don't know how much they can use and which types. Information packs would be another good idea.
2. Again its one thing to have the gear, another to know its meant to be used but its entirely different to actually go out and do it which is always the best learning experience. So, you could take people away camping to demonstrate all this in real life scenarios.
This would all seemto work well for someone having those extra days off during the week, especially if you get long weekends to do the camping trips.

Meh, animals are and always will be animals. You can't leave human children alone in the house and not expect them to do something wrong at times, like draw on the walls. That's what you get when you leave 3 energetic dogs like whippets inside the house. Sure made a mess

Aliens, we would likely be very technologically inferior and very dead. Monsters like those, how do we stop those again? Plus large scale destruction, even if they don't kill you they destroy all the infrastructure and food. Zombies, sure large numbers but they are slow and dumb plus they can be easily stopped with a round to the head.
The world war Z zombies would be far less survivable, those things were fast and inhumanly strong but still a better option then the others IMO.

Well, last summer we had some pretty hot days and this winter we are having some pretty cold days (well nights mostly)
Big downsides either way.
If I'm not forced out of the house with limited supplies due to some unforeseeable event then I would prefer winter. Being at home with access to everything, even with out power, negates most of the downsides of winter and I can be more active during the days to get things done with out exhaustion and burning through water supplies.

A rifled barrel would be the hardest part to make but perhaps not as hard as one would think.
In the end they don't really need it for what most criminals use them for. A drive by is spray and pray anyway.
