Except nutcase won’t have a handgun because of his record of mental illness. Firearms Registry are very strict on this, one of my trainees was an ex cop who had a brief period where he was on medication for stress after an incident on the job, and his probationary pistol licence application was rejected for that reason.

This whole situation smells fishy. Iran gives Israel plenty of warning about an impending attack so that they can prepare for it, and then launch a slow motion attack that gives them almost 12hrs notice, enough time to destroy the incoming missiles and drones before they even reach the border, preventing death and damage from debris. It’s like Iran wanted to be seen responding to save face but didn’t want to do any damage that would cause the Israelis to remove Iran from the map. And my bet is Biden promised the Iran something in return.

If every law abiding citizen had the right to concealed carry handguns the situation would have gone down like this:
Nutcase pulls knife and approaches first victim, 2 seconds later is shot dead by armed citizen. Simples. A permanent solution to our mental health crisis, where the violent mentally ill are removed from society permanently at no cost to the taxpayer.

I believe the only impact we will see here is higher prices for fuel and any items that are, or can claimed to be, higher due to higher oil price. I have no doubt the supermarket duopoly here will raise prices on a range of items and blame it erroneously on higher oil prices. The poor will get poorer, the middle class will get poor and the rich will continue to profit.

Outdoor dining room now lined with fibre cement sheets. Won’t rot or warp, won’t have to be replaced for a very long time, because having a spare is good but not needing a spare is better.

Those Iranians have very short memories. Foreign embassies have been fair game for them for hundreds of years. Anyone remember how they overran the US embassy in Tehran in 1979?

Unless you have a son who is a glazier with lots of free or cheap glass to build a greenhouse to extend the growing season.
There’s no shortage of firewood either. Enough to see my grandchildren into old age.

I’m going to try that on my Taipan, that uses AR mags, see how much pressure (and stupidity) is required to get the mag to stay in place backwards.

How are you processing any excess produce, SA Hunter? Dehydrating or bottling, freezing?

How is that mag even staying in the mag well? And nice chicken wing, lady. Get your elbow shot off real quick. That ‘swat’ orificer with the shotgun needs some training in trigger discipline as well. No wonder I have my work cut out for me when I get coppers needing extra training.

A day trip to the retreat yesterday to take the wood heater for the new cabin. I’ll get those walls finished and hopefully the flue installed by winter.

You can still by old style non-smart phones. I have a $29 dumb phone. No apps, very limited internet access.

Quote: The lack of Tradies can be laid directly at the Govts door, they cut back on apprentices and public service trade jobs many years ago to use external contractors. Ditto for large companies like BHP, and Alcoa.
The shortage is so acute my tradie son recently charged a caravan park a half day job at $500 per each 45 minutes labour replacing the tracks on glass sliding doors. They were so happy with his cheap rates they are throwing heaps more jobs at him.

Building the house is simple. Making the material to build it with not so simple.

I’m putting a roof to extend 500mm out from the windows, just under the gutter, directing rain water beyond the slab. The windows have been properly sealed with sikaflex and angle trim (my glazier is one of Sydney’s leaders in this field, running jobs that cost more than some countries GDP). The front window was packed to level, as the slab slopes downward slightly to direct water away, and a metric shyte tonne of sikaflex underneath it to prevent water ingress. Even the screws fixing the subhead to the slab have been sealed with sika. I even put a moisture barrier under the timber frame.

Those windows cost me $100 each, not including the metal subhead, angle and framing pine. Much cheaper than double glazing.

Started enclosing the open dining area with glass. The kitchen in the cabin was never designed to seat a dozen people, so we use this open area for larger groups, but it gets very cold in winter. This should fix that:

I’m looking to build next year. Base price estimate 6 months ago was $850k. I’m expecting that to go above $1m when I get a firm quote later this year. On the positive side the property assessment I got earlier this week from the local realtor on my current home came in at up to $1.3m. I think she’s dreaming, but you never know in this market.
