Seems like my reply didn't go through last night. I absolutely agree with the both of you. I hope that didn't come across as me being "anti" anti bitoics. Which I am not. I am anti "over use, you have a runny nose here is some antibiotics" I was born with bad kidneys and have had to deal with lots of hospilizations and lots of rounds of antibiotics fighting off kidney infections and I sure as hell wouldn't turn them away. Just found the article interesting/sad is all.

I had 7 pekin bantams in a flock a few years ago and they were wonderful birds. Lost all 7 in one night when a very cunning fox managed to find a way in. We had araucanas but the roosters were far too aggressive and would attack everyone; me, the wife, guests, kids... johovas witnesses (I usually like talking to them but it was worth a laugh) so they ended up in the pot. We've had australorpes for about 2 years now and are yet to have any go broody. What's your setup like mate? got them free ranging? have a run? how many chooks to square meters? The roosters or the jehova witnesses ended up in the pot? 😂 Haha

I'm only new to water storing, but have a few litres stored for short term emergency. If stored in a cool dark place, does anyone know how long commercially bottled water stores for?? I've heard and read all different answers.

I usually try to keep my involvement out of these types of discussions because I usually get too heated too fast. But I've enjoyed reading everyone's responses and opinions. Good to be in a group of adults who don't take others opinions to heart and glad ive become involved in the forum in general. Glad you're here too Chloe, and glad for your involvement. Yes, one thing we hold to heart here is that we encourage discussion here, even to disagree, as long as the discussion does not become personal, reverts to name calling, slander, abuse, etc etc etc. We also encourage these discussions as many of us prepare for events on a global picture - war, famine, financial collapse, disasters, to name a few. I think you will find a more mature, respectful, even "tongue in cheek" comments here on a range of subjects. Even if someone disagrees with an idea, I have seen conversations that had the potential to spiral out of control be handled in a calm, mature way, and as you said, there are those who declined to comment for the reasons you have mentioned. I can attest for Aus & the rest of the admin team - we have very specific goals and aims for this site, and being devisive, abusive, or swallowed up with conspiracies and the like, are something we will not allow to control the direction of this place. (In fact, in the Gold Lounge we even have a thread for "conspiracies", but it's rarely even used!!! Maybe we are just too level headed!!! Oh don't get me wrong I love a good conspiracy, but for the time it is just that, a conspiracy. But yes. Admin and mods do a wonderful job here and great to see everyone having discussions involving different opinions and no one name calling and acting like kids. Hats off to everyone!

iPad isn't letting me quote paranoia, but I know some people are being stupid with Pokemon and letting young kids out alone at night to play. But as a young adult I've had loads of fun running around (while being road safe) and have never had as much fun while exercising before. Walked 6kms which is decent for me while having fun with it can't be a bad thing.

I think mine is seeking a friend for the end of the world. It shocks me at the end every time I watch it and leaves me with such a strange feeling. I also enjoyed these final hours and contagion.

Water Storage/purification, Food Storage and Medicines/Medical Knowledge. Would like to become more knowledgeable about bush survival, but the more reading I do the more convinced I am that I will die in the bush! Hahaha I feel the exact same way!!

Food and water would have to top the list at number 1 for me. Ammunition would place a close second, or, even 1.5 lol Personal fitness is an awesome goal to have, one that everyone should have. But would it be listed as a prep? To me its more a lifestyle choice, but an important one at that. True. I guess in the way you say it, good fitness can be used as bonus points to prepping?? Haha. Unfortunatly I have no way to prep ammunition, since I do not own a firearm in my home. Lately I've bumped up my medical supplies and always adding more food. I guess I'd change my answer to storing more water and making myself more aware of natural remedies to illnesses and injuries. Does that one count??

Firstly, I must point out that my iPad autocorrected preps to Oreos and the subject said "what Oreos are you focusing on" which made me laugh..
Anyway, I was wondering what's one thing in your preps you are focusing on? Could be food or water storage, heating/cooling alternatives, bug out locations ect.
I would say currently, my biggest thing is trying to get fit! Eating more real foods and trying to get my fitness ready for if/when I need to travel long distance on foot, or run from an enemy.

I guess it's good that I don't have aircon in my house. And we go through some pretty hot weeks throughout summer. We just stay down stairs and keep the blinds pulled down. Although I do love going places with aircon when it's hot haha. Great video, sure is something I'd keep in mind for if/when the grid goes down.

I've been rethinking my luxury prep(s). Every trip back to the US I stock up on Kraft Parmesan Cheese, blocks of Kraft Velveeta Cheese and Contadina Tomato Paste. The Kraft Parmesan here has a very strong flavour and overpowers my homemade spaghetti sauce. I bring over 4-10lbs a year and have accidentally misplaced some in the past and used it 3+ years later. The colour had changed a bit, but flavour remained the same. Velveeta is a shelf stable pasteurised cheese. It has a best by date, but no expiration date and can last for years unopened. Makes the best homemade macaroni and cheese and doesn't separate when heated like normal cheese. As for the Contadina Tomato Paste, my spaghetti sauce just doesn't taste the same without it. I've tried every brand sold in Australia that I've come across and none taste right. I try to bring a flat back every trip. I've had cans for 2-3 years with no issue, but notice that sometimes it separates in mid-summer. Taste is unaffected. I rotate this stock pretty regularly, but every once in a while I come across one that is up to 3 years past expiration and have never thought twice about using it. Thus, considering that I import these products from overseas (dedicated suitcase), I guess they would be my luxury preps. Snickers are for morale. Yum! I want to try your Mac n cheese and spaghetti sauce!! Sounds great

I don't drink any alcohol or smoke any cigarettes or cigars. So I guess I'm kind of boring in that department. But any sort of milk chocolate, peanut butter and Nutella. I would probably die for a bottle of coke too haha!
