I’ll be surviving on meat and associated organs if i could pick only 1 thing.
I read somewhere that during the lean times in Ireland the hard working peasants ate large amounts of potato. This was due to the fact they needed to to extract as much nutrition from them as possible to avoid starvation. They are low in many nutrients so had to each much more despite maxing out other nutrients such as carbs etc. Liebigs law of the minimum states you can only grow as much as the most limiting nutrient will allow [he was talking about plants] but this also applies to animals to a certain degree too.

Got some corn, beans and zucchinis in yesterday. Has anyone got ideas on how to use 200L HDPE drums for growing potatoes? I’ve got 2 options, cut across on the x axis or along the Y axis. X axis would give consistent soil depth but reduced surface area. Cutting on the y axis would give more surface area but less consistent soil depth. I’m thinking y axis to give more surface area and keeping a closer eye on watering and fertilisers. How many drums do you have to use? Why not try both ways and see which one works best? I would probably cut along the X axis, only half fill with soil, put potatoes in and cover with soil. As the plants grow, you can add more soil to keep the growing tubers covered, which then encourages more tubers to grow. Depends where you are too. Too much sun on the sides of the drums can heat the soil too much and damage or stunt the growing tubers. JMO. Good luck. Good points rosebud. I might just try both and compare. If worst case happens then i have some extra water and feed troughs for the stock.

The NSW FAR keep changing their “fact sheets”. No information is provided sent to individual licence holders when these arbitrary changes are made. There are new “rules” for storing a rifle in your shed if it's not attached to your primary residence. The commissioners “powers” are real wild west.

The KLRs are heavy though and not many people could ride them like you see in the advertising or biker mags. They are cheap, sip the fuel, repairable and can carry a lot of gear which is really appealing. They are set up for long distance touring from the shop so you don’t need to spend too much to get them to be pretty awesome bov’s.
The KTMs, BMWs and honda v twins are all too pricey. They go well but unless you wanna ride them a lot probably not worth the investment.
On the light side a DR200 is a great option. Can be loaded up a bit and apparently you get 40km per litre. they are light, low powered and also low tech. I rebuilt one years ago and it was a surprisingly good bike.

Just heard that apparently several russian missiles hit polish territory and killed some civilians. This is either the end of the war or an escalation. NATO must act or have egg smeared on their faces. I’d say they might consider sending in holding forces and the the Ukranians keep up the assault without having to worry about holding turf.

I use sea to summit gaiters when in sketchy bush areas. they go to just below the knee and are fairly rugged. They would be just about snake proof as they are made of thick material. some are made from canvas. They are simple enough to put on.

Someone on this forum bought a KTM 390 adventure bike. I reckon that would be pretty good. For me my YZ250 2T gets me going where i need. It is thirsty though.
I am partial to a DR650. good off road, ok on road and can haul gear. They were cheap but stopped making them last year.

There is no benefit. It won’t stop dodgy companies or dodgy operation of a company. I’d like to see the legislation that allows this type of request and when this specific set of clauses or Act was introduced. My guess is somewhere between March 2020 and now. i suspect this type of crap is the long arm of the covid outbreak. We already have the internment camp so why not voice recognition and such?

The Director authentication process has gone Orwellian. Voice recognition activation and a butt probe just to make sure.

Extremist doesn’t rate anymore. If it did we would not be bringing back all those IS scrags and their little beheading offspring.

My end of 2022 is lining up to be a cracker. I am now on a suppliers list to provide services to the principle that most people would pay to do. My small business is up and running! All done in 4 weeks. I neglected the garden and turned that time into putting in a tender and starting a business. I’m not sure of potential earnings as i’m the new dude on the block but it's a foot in the door and will lead to bigger and better contracts. Hell yeah!
The labour shortage up here is getting full on. An everyday joe cleaner can expect $70 an hour. Yep $70 an hour. That’s just shy of $150k per year doing a normal working week.
Don’t hole up, break out! it’s here for the taking.

Check this out. Henry lever riflesI like the tube mag set up and then being able to top off with a side gate. I reckon tube mags are safer to unload.

Nice compact, practical little piece this one! Would be good with a Red Dot as well, why not sight in both options given the .357 calibre. I’m waiting for the side gate henrys to come out over here. Still unsure on 357 or 44. Ah the choices!
