Some people treat their bodies like a temple. I on the other hand treat mine like Luna Park !!!!! So, since i always carry some kind of snack food with me i thought i would try an experiment on the burn times of certain snack foods. Snacks i had on hand were from left to right Peanuts, Twisties, Macadamia and Corn chip. ( I had wanted to test a potato chip but i had eaten them the night before) First thing i did was to crush all the ingredients to see if they would take a spark with a ferro rod. Unfortunately this was an epic FAIL. So back to the trusty Bic lighter. Second was to see what the burn time was for each item. The results were as follows: Peanuts 41 secTwisties 27secMacadamia nut 3 minutes 14 secCorn Chip 1 minute 46 secondsThe Macadamia wins hands down.

Natural fats in macadamia would keep this burning for a while!

Thanks for the feedback guys I read somewhere that the hydrogenised fat in chips would allow you to start a fire in a survival situation. I was a little dubious about the claim so i decided to raid the cupboard and try some other fatty items i had on hand as well. It was disappointing that none of the items would take a spark from the ferro rod but still good info to know i guess.

I remember throwing cheezles (sp?) in the fire and they would flare up and burn for ages. Maybe add them to your "burn list" Res-Q

Nice work B This is exactly the reason why you need to go out and try this stuff for yourself and not accept YOUTUBE and the NET as gospel. I couldnt tell you the amount of time and money i've wasted on trying out survivalist stuff from Youtube thats never worked in real life. Your crayon test proved it again. Thanks

STANDBY STANDBY, Update on snack food tinder database. Cheezels v's Thins crisps Thins brand potato chip: would not hold a flame for more than a few seconds on repeated lighting. Possibly due to the pack saying they have 60% less fat!!!!!!! Cheezels burnt for an outstanding 2 minutes 9 seconds. Good solid flame for the duration of the test. Folks we have a new winner. CHEEZELS Please feel free to add to this important survival database at anytime
