I am keen on the new ruger chargers. Great to keep as a "carbine" for when everything is wrol. $450 I believe from cleavers at the moment. Stock prices vary but I think that with s srtup similar to that listed above you could have a very effective firearm for clearing building and even recon (man size accurate to about 100-150 yards)

The chargers are definitely accurate.
When mine was still in its kit as above I could fire of 10rd's almost as fast I could fire the trigger and keep them all in a group less than the size of an average fist at 25yards. That is standing using the red dot. Plus mine had the barrel shortened to 7" Slow fire and that setup did 5-10c piece size easy with cheap ammo.

How are these pistol-to-carbine conversions legal, as that essentially makes them a semi-auto rifle.
I was in Cleavers the other day looking at the Charger (love it BTW, will surely get one some day), next to it in the case was a similar thing, can't remember the platform but basically a full-on tactical-looking pistol about the same size as the Charger.
I noticed that it had a socket for a stock but was told that it's illegal to add one, presumably because that makes it a semi-auto carbine.
The above guns look pretty short, maybe it's OK if the result of the conversion is less than 750mm long, but then that would have been the case with the one I saw at Cleavers as well.
Anyone know what the story is with this sort of thing?

You guessed it mostly. OAL is the requirement. 750 in QLD and 650 for NSW which is why they are so compact. There are other minor requirements that needed to be met also. Most of these conversions have fallen out of favour as police are claiming they make it look substantially like a military firearm.

Does anyone have comments on the quality of CZ or Browning .22s?

The browning bucarks are fantastic firearms (in 22 of course). Have shot the one at the range you go to several times and it is accurate and feels great in the hand
However I went for the ruger. I got myself a mark 1 and it was phenomenal

Both make decent rifles Mr Pete. I am CZ fan, really good .22s I reckon. Good build quality, accurate and last a lifetime

I have the ICCS .22 looks like a Glock. Police in the USA use them for practice as the ammo is cheap. Great little gun.
