It's probably worth looking at 'solar' drying for SHTF as I wouldn't bet on power. Yeah that's on the long term plan, I think I might be able to coax hubby into joining in on that one. We have gas cooking so if the SHTF tomorrow I'd make a whole lot of jerky in the oven to stop our meat from spoiling.

Right, next on my to-do list is to compare oven dried vrs dehydrated.

Done 2 kg of beef jerky in the dehydrator the other day which i was going to save.... it it is all gone now. Will have to use a bit more self control next time.

Yes, Yes it is, when i comes to home made jerky. think i will make some more next week, might have to make double. Store half and eat the other.lol

Just popped these in the dryer: the chillies were 18 g before drying; the mulberries were 80 g. I should note, we usually stick our chillies in vinegar... Just thought we'd try something different. As for the mulberries, I was looking for some dried berries to use in some baking today, and couldn't find any: thought I'd give mulberries a go! Attachments:
