Is there an upswing in member applications and/or regular site traffic from 'lurkers' recently? This is the first time 'prepping' has ever really hit the headlines.

There is a means of getting a daily number of hits, but not sure where to find it. I'll have a look and get back to you. Also, on a Google search, we are not very high up the search list. Have had a few more members joining, but not sure if this is due to the virus.

I think I would be one of those people you are talking about!
I used to visit and post a lot more frequently a couple of years ago and then regular challenges of life took priority and I stopped coming.
In the meantime the world seems to have changed a lot over the past three years. Politically and socially.
Coronavirus has been the spark that has reignited the interest I already had in prepping. So that’s why I’m back.
It’s a shame about google though. They don’t help people find places like this very much.

I was looking at the member list just yesterday, stalking my good mate Dr Henry, who hadn't logged in since October, which is surprising given the current national focus on prepping for Corona. He has been very quiet in the national discussion.
Anyways, there seems to be hundreds of members not active for 3 or 4 years. Wonder how many of them will reappear.

I was more referring to casual browsers using this site but not contributing. I'd be far less inclined to share info if it means that the locusts might show up.

When I read the posts of various fb friends and their shock at empty shelves in the supermarket, their comments are like ... wtf?, omg!, seriously?, ridiculous! (That's 4 people not one) .. so yeah, considering those quotes were made after a pandemic declaration I see no hope for them and I dont expect them to turn into preppers.

I've known a few 'locust' survivalists that always took, never gave. Eventually they got cut from the group and they lost a few opportunities as a result. Can't see how you can manage that on a public forum, unless you share info in a private section reserved for active contributors.

He has probably already bugged out lol. Considering his contacts, maybe he could go from locust to asset and provide some of his interesting intel?

A lot here is only seen by members - guests can't see everything - and we also have a few threads here only certain members can access ( eg admin, Ladies Area ).

I'd suggest it's because Dr Henry has attained the Government Agency position he was chasing and has at this time no further use for us!

Don't be overly harsh on "people who don't give", ever now and then we get a lurker who gets some ideas here ends up buying some essentials in time and that's one less family the world has to worry about.
Besides there is not much info on how to survive once S has HTF without prior preps so no point for most people to lurk here after the fact. It's not like we publish where we stash our crates of MRE food and ammo, spare Hummers and 250lt drums of fuel.
I like to think that we already know what needs to be done, just bouncing a few minor ideals.

Have been an active member and at times just a lurker... when I am quiet it usually means I have my head down and bum up chipping away at goals etc sometimes I feel like I have something to contribute and other times not so much just depends on the topics that are being discussed at the time

One thing, when we started this site, Aus (owner) was more interested in quality of posts than quantity of members. I think we have passed on both counts.

A lot of new preppers are mostly on Fb I'm finding. There are hundreds of posts on different groups each day that are slight variations of the same themes: *I'm new to prepping, what should I store *How/where do people store their food supplies *This coronavirus has woken me up, how do I prep *What does SHTF mean *I have no idea what stockpiling actually is or how its done, but I'm going to label real preppers selfish and greedy 🙄
Oh and my favourite... "Show me what you've got"

*I have no idea what stockpiling actually is or how its done, but I'm going to label real preppers selfish and greedy 🙄 So, if real preppers, who have been buying things slowly and quietly and not affecting other people's access to products are selfish and greedy, what are the fooktards who have been buying up 100 rolls of tp at a time?

It makes them members within 90% of the human race that are classified as semi functioning retards!

Toilet paper is pretty low on any real prepper's list. Takes up heaps of room and you can easily do without it. More of a comfort than a necessity.

I've been listeing to talkback radio a lot over the last few weeks. So many people refer to the TP pilferers as "preppers". Little do they know that we aren't the ones raiding the shops atm...
