I'm in my 50's and can still do 50 pushups, so I agree that the baseline should be lifted, but that females shouldn't be expected to meet the same requirements as males. The toughest soldier I know did most of HER basic training at Kapooka with a fractured pelvis. She just wouldn't give up.

They better be one armed mate or I'm thinking you're a bit of a lightweight!

Mate, that's 50 with a 6ft blonde Vietnamese backpacker on my back, as she counts off the reps and I scream 'I'm a donkey'.

I've heard many times how women shouldn't be in combat units if they can't carry a wounded male soldier to safety., usually from shallow thinkers who have no concept of modern warfare. Most men can't carry a fully laden infantry soldier either, and how the fark are our infantry supposed to complete their missions in Muslim AO's if they don't include female soldiers to interview and search female muslim civilians? It's not rocket science, unless you're an overweight middle aged mysogonist. I certainly get why women may be useful in a combat unit to be more culturally aware in certain matters (e.g., searching Muslim women) but that's no excuse for why a bloke would be required to do 15 pushups whereas a woman would only need to do 8 for any fitness test. 15 pushups, the initial fitness test requirements aren't excessive. If anything the initial requirements are too low so if somebody would struggle I don't understand why they didn't bother literally taking a few days to prepare for it. Now based on your individual role fitness requirements may be different (e.g. requirements for air force compared to army), but if you share a role you should have the same minimal requirements no matter if you're male or female. Has nothing to do with being able to carry a fella to safety or overweight middle aged mysogonism. Simply doing 15 pushups and 45 sit ups doesn't mean you can endure Kapooka much less the front lines, so that's not what I'm arguing. If a female soldier can't even be expected to do 15 pushups then what does that say about the quality of our military? The 15 and 8 pushups are just the pre requisite for Kapooka - they have to do it before going, within 3 days of being there, then when they finish - fail, it's goodbye. Then after that one has to to a BFA every 12 months - the numbers required are then dependant on sex and age.

3 months to essential service breakdown?
That's a lot longer than I expected!

From the video --- the government has taken advantage of low oil prices to buy stock in the US, which "it hopes to someday ship to Australia". That pretty much sums it up. Government is criticised for years for not stockpiling oil, now that it has it (theoretically, its not yours until in your hand), but it doesn't have plans on how to get it to Aus or where to store it.

Well hopefully they'll direct some funds to building some storage facilities locally. They made good on the opportunity to buy in, as it wasn't something that could be accurately predicted.
Let's just hope we don't get saddled with paying exorbitant rental rates for overseas facilities while no one bothers to update infrastructure here.

I’d be surprised if we thought that far ahead to consider rental rates. But then again i think the US was desperate to use surplus production to fill the strategic reserve as Trumps actions to fill it for their own use were blocked. Thus you’d hope our government pushed for a good deal.

Thanks, bce1. Gotta laugh though. Increase our fuel reserves... overseas! Don't be reliant on others for our security..like parts for our fighters!
As for "Water supply stops within a week"? Nah, substitutes can be used in treatment. Interesting but there are lots of things that can be stretched. We use an incredible amount of energy delivering things every day. If deliveries were only once a week or once a fortnight this saves a lot of energy. We don't really need to supply potable water to people, just water that can be made drinkable. And we waste huge amounts of water too. But realistically we are screwed. Without nukes we just have to take whatever comes at us and hope (piss-poor strategy that) that it turns out OK.

The only manager at my workplace whom I respect for her leadership qualities is a lesbian. Sexual preference doesn't determine someone's ability to lead. I didnt say that, but when you have nancy boys running around trying to women and women running around trying to men when they cant be is a bit of a travesty dont you agree, especially if you plonk them in roles where its life and death, not delivering the @#$%ing mail. You obviously have a grudge against LGBT people. I'm calling BS on your view that an LGBT person can't do any demanding or life vs death job on the planet. I agree that many are left wing and many are flakes, but if you think they all are then you're a fool who has fallen for the stereotypical media image. If you think there isn't an equivalent hetro flake loser for every LGBT person of similar ilk, then you're kidding yourself. Kristin Beck would be a good transgender example for you. 20 year US Navy SEAL. Purple Heart & meritorious service citations, 7 combat deployments and presumably she's killed more ragheads than you ever will. I have a lot more respect for people with the courage to do the things she's done than I do for keyboard warriors who make flawed allegations against a whole group of society.

Why do all these military types go all transgender, are the hormones out of balance before they go in or while they are in or is it what they get fed throughout their career! That Kristin Beck is a good example, still a man under the facade of being a transgender. But as i say above, i dont give a shit either way, i just find it disturbing and unnatural.

Unnatural or not. If the person is a good soldier I'd like to have them in my foxhole when the going gets tough, that should be all that matters. I myself don't care about diversity points or inclusion, best person for the job is what matters. So if a woman or someone transgendered is the best person for the job then I'll be a very happy man to fight alongside them when SHTF.
However gentleman. Regarding the whole tensions I feel brewing right now between you two let's just take a breather and redirect ourselves to the original topic. If it's something that can't be ignored maybe engage eachother through private message or make a new thread. Let's not get into this my friends.

I grew up in a setting where men are men and women are women. I get that any human being is capable of great things no matter the personality traits or sexual orientation, but it is a slippery slope when the gender bending becomes normal/natural and endorsed via social media and the stupid-vision (televitz) , i just dont get it nor will have it. If my son or daughter comes home and says they are gay or whatever, thats ok i dont care, but they will no longer be part of my family as they dont want to further the family unit and want to create some unnatural cultural anthropological paradigm that opposes what is natural and the survival of said male and female family unit, no amount of test tube babies can or will replace the family unit and grow strong and healthy offspring. Just as strong as those who think being LGBT is normal and natural you have to understand that many folk have just as stronger mindset where we know and believe it is unnatural.

Just as strong as those who think being LGBT is normal and natural you have to understand that many folk have just as stronger mindset where we know and believe it is unnatural. I can see where you're coming from, heck if I see a bloke with even a nose piercing sometimes I'm like "can I just pull that darn thing off your nose so you look normal?". But as you and I both can agree on that little chunk of metal on his face or whatever he has between his legs doesn't make him unable to potentially achieve great things and even be invaluable to society. Now you won't ever catch me in a dress. But I don't want to be defined as "bloke who doesn't wear dresses", and while I certainly like a good looking lady as much as any bloke I don't want to be defined as lady lover. I am Jim, and I'd rather be defined by my actions (ignore my username darn it). So in doing so we might as well define others through their actions instead of how they look or what they think they are. What they actually do is what's important to me, everything else is superficial. Audie Murphy started off a scrawny looking kid who looked like he'd lose a fight against a strong gust of wind, and was even rejected from the military initially for being underweight. And heck look what that man eventually did in his military career.

doglovingjim fear not, I've said my piece. One of the things they liked to tell us in the military is that the standard you walk past is the standard you set aka have the courage to call it out when you see something wrong rather than ignoring it. So it has become a bit of a habit. Enough said.

Unnatural or not. If the person is a good soldier I'd like to have them in my foxhole when the going gets tough, that should be all that matters. And that's where it all falls down. The military has discriminatory recruitment practices that favour women. Then once in, the required fitness standard is lower, even if doing the same job. Not surprisingly, the retention rate is appallingly low.
