I keep 2 or 3 X 1.5 plastic bottles of water in back of car. Use and refill them on a weekly basis. They live under a folded up wool blanket which is for protecting self in the event I need to drive through bushfire. My first aid kit is in a 25cm pelican case which sits inside a padded aluminium case which is also under the wool blanket.
big water containers (eg 10l bladders) have 2 drawbacks: a single leak can cost you all your water (and make a big mess) and you cant just throw one in a bag and take it for a walk.

We get 12 packs of Frantelle 600ml water for between 4 and 6 bucks from Woolies, and drink them often. Like any time we need to wait in car or have been out for a couple of hours. When halfway through, pop in another pack. So at any time there is between 6 and 18 of them in the boot. They get used too quick to noticeably degrade.
Also have a 20L plastic "jerry can" of water in the boot, but that isn't for drinking. It doesn't get changed so would prob taste like the seat of a exercise bike in a busy gym. Good for the radiator and cleaning up if needed.

We always keep a few litres of water in our car. The one omission for us was a first aid kit, which I found out the hard way. Had to do some very basic 'cutting stuff out' of my foot with a pocket knife before driving to a supermarket to get the necessary first aid supplies. Will remedy this asap.

Here in our part of the far north we keep several half liter bottles of water in the car.. Even frozen solid, put them in the cup holders when you don't have a take out coffee there..
When all warms up as the car runs you will be able to get a drink of water as needed... Rotate or replace bottles periodically or as needed.. Actually.. It is better to use rinced out soda half liter bottles as they are stronger, and have better caps.. Not a perfect system, but good enough all considered...

I have kept a few of those plastic water safe jerry's from bunnings on the truck a few times and every time the bung leaks on them, so longer get those and use the willow brand that has no bung and just pour into a 5 liter cooler when need to. Just word of warning, maybe you have experienced this or maybe im just unlucky or the jerries from bunnings are nasty cheap crap not made to last more that month.

Every time I see the title of this thread, all I think is 'couple of rounds in the foot well, it'll drain out right quick. Do it fast enough and your carpets won't get the chance to mildew. Could be I watched far too many 'Bush Mechanic' episodes back in the day. 🤣
