I don't have to, the collapse will take care of that issue straight away. ...maybe this is the collapse trigger? A landmark study comes out, we all go bonkers and and insist the government bans theses chemicals, agricultural productivity tanks around the world and BANG! There you have it...a MWT wet dream of global starvation, chaos and destruction!

What a great idea! Maybe that's what we should of done with DDT, Dieldrin and CFCs...lets just let chit happen! Well, in the time it takes me to type this, a kid dies of malaria, but would have been saved if DDT had been allowed.
Try "The Malaria Capers" by Robert S. Desowitz....and a few other books by the same author, such as "New Guinea Tapeworms and Jewish Grandmothers." All good reads if you plan to visit/survive the 3rd world.

So you believe we should keep using it? There are other treatments and vaccines for malaria right?
I will NEVER visit the 3rd world.

I'll never forget one time when I was in low lighting overseas and my hair product and Deet bottle were the same size and shape. Deet was rat pack green, hair product was desaturated purple. Perfect storm of "I nearly deeted the heck out of my head, coulda been DDT". Of course, everything is hilarious when you're exhausted and running on adrenaline. So I spent the next ten minutes quietly snickering about the fact that one of my grandfathers probably would have been largely unimpressed at laughter about my near miss with a non-existent product that would have let him come home from Borneo without having to take quinine tablets for the rest of his extremely shortened life.
I reckon he might have very much liked to have access to the imaginary bottle of DDT that I'd almost have doused myself with if it weren't banned. Probably one of those "you had to be there" things but my dark humour still makes me smile when I think about it.

I will NEVER visit the 3rd world. Australia is quickly becoming the 3rd world - and one could argue, that it already is in many regional centres. Look at the healthcare, education, housing, poverty etc - meanwhile kids are vaping, chroming and many are walking around with tombstones in their eyes. The differences between the haves and the have nots are widening, and more and more people are sliding into a poor, and potentially a homeless lifestyle…. The 3rd world is on your doorstep. Prepare for that when these people start to demand and want their share…

There are treatments, which have side effects and require compliance. Near-enough is not good enough (doxycycline, for example, makes you more prone to sunburn and has to be taken for a month after you leave the malaria-ridden zone). And that's probably the nicest one.
Vaccines? Nope. Working on it, but don't hold your breath (and don't forget the Aerogard).
As for DEET (Rid) or DDT, I'll take my chances with them over malaria any day.

Can’t they develop a safe and effective vaccine within 12 months?

There's no point in saving a few lives if it destroys the rest of the ecosystem.
You think like my father...he used DDT on our farm until I grew a brain and handed it in. When he used it, it was like a farm-wide holocaust...it killed everything.
I'll take my chances too...no tropics and no industrial chemicals.

Same with the jabs, Ill trust my immune system and the tune ups from the bees, along with basic precautions.
Since we are defining things, a gun is a cordless hole puncher.

I guess he used it "farm-wide" instead of just where the kids played. Of course, empty the old tyres and pot plants, so no mozzies grow, but was DDT really the culprit it was made to be?
