You are better off having a mix of breeds, we have Isa browns, Australorps and the sisters young un has some bantams. We always run a rooster with them, the chooks love it and he does protect them from the crows etc. Ducks can be run in the same enclosure, but they don't need shelter, and even if u give them some, they wont use it. Our ducks are adjacent to a chook run (the garden chooks) and apart from occasionally flying over into the chooks when I'm feeding them, no issues. Ducks do need access to water and will make a mess, but the Bunnings kiddies blue paddling pools are ideal, easy to keep clean every few days and the water makes ideal fertiliser. Remember this all you polyfilths, and elites, In the end, gravity wins and everybody dies.... My reason for going the one heritage breed "Australorp" is to make a little bit of cash back selling the excess pullets. I can see chicken sales getting more popular in the coming years. I'd like to add ducks in, so preparing for that next.

Luv the ducks, their antics and quacking at any little thing that passes their run. The also don't fly into trees, so can be run under fruit trees etc.
4 duck egg omlets are hard to beat for a filling tea.
Had to dispose of a very old sheep last night, time to clean the weapons as I have been a bit slack over the past few months.
Duck eggs are a suitable novelty for people and are easy to sell at markets etc.
No frost this morning as it was a overcast.
I'm going to speak my mind as I have nothing to lose.
