Now that is fricking cool. Why the hell cant we do that more? I'd love to pay less for my energy usage. Land mass vs population density is our problem. we have aprox 23 million in an area the size of the US who has nearly 300 million. So we have less than 1/10th the population per sq km and we are expecting to do the same for the same cost as bigger population centres, so do the math on how much it will cost per head. Heck, some European countries are about the size of Tasmania yet have the same or larger populations as we do. Simple economics really.
That's the problem with tackling climate change as well. whatever it would cost per head, would cost us 10 time or more per head here, due to our land mass.
Many scientist discuss population problems on tube. would much rather have not enough people as exponential growth is ultimately going to bring teotwawki far sooner that global warming whatever the cause. No longer " populate or perish" now it is populate and perish. Dick smith came out saying stop growth in population as was labelled a racist. An old theory that is not fully accepted is " Malthusian principle" discusses results of population growth.

Sand bags is a good one. They deteriorate in the sun in a few months. So could be used as sand bags but only deployed when needed if in the sun.

Any suggestion what these woven poly bags can be used for? I get a couple a week and have no idea what to use them for. Seems wasteful to landfill them Attachments:

My father served in the occupation forces and his brother was in the islands and around the Japanese war. He had many friends who were in various POW camps. To the day he died he was violently anti Japanese. When I try to comprehend what men and women went through I cannot even develop a mental picture without a deep mixture of fear and gratitude. More modern fake movies showing the carnage have similar effect. The gift given is eternal to all their descendent sand must be remembered.

m.australianbullioncompany.com.au/catalog/59I would like my bullion in 1 oz coins. Then I could use them to barter but not have to spend all on a kg ingot even though the kg is well and trully better value. 1oz coins seem to be at double the oz price ie $30 each when silver price was about $15

In the past i had a spasmodic preparation attention span. Had a lot of time early last year with a shoulder op and really cauGht up on the theory and videos and as I got stronger put plans into action. This year I have been much more consistent and have got a fair bit more support from the boss as she see the stuff happening. She even suggested buying slabs of bottled water from aldi and questioned me on our stocks when I said it was already covered. So at the moment I would say I am in a wax

Climate change is for real. It can be a monstrous problem. Here we can wake up to a clear frosty morning, get to 40 degrees by 4 pm am be cold by 8 pm. But then I do live in Melbourne.

Just filled up the boss mobile from the jerry can as part of my recycling fuel storage. Only have 5 jerry cans and I try to have 3 full as a minimum and keep the cars all above half. Love to store more petrol but insurance could be a problem. Fuel runs out I can run the genny for about a week if I just use it for freezers and blip run it.

I heard a financial bloke on the radio yesterday arvo. He was asked about the fuel bottlenecks and effects. He seemed to believe there was a possible risk of interruption of supply but only short term. He mentioned also that Saudis had lowered the crude price by $2 as there is an oversupply at the moment due to US being self sufficient in fuels. He also mentioned that The Islamic state terrorists are selling oil. I would like to know who buys it and then an embargo should be put in place.

Extreme exaggeration. It would take at least 96 hours to be a problem. Even then it is only a problem for those who want to eat and drink also those who did not prepare. Cavere

If you can subsist long enough and start with a some helpful basic skills like growing food and possibly raising meat etc then some of the old skills will be re discovered. At least most of Australia is snow free and even in the coldest parts can be survived without the skin of a mammoth. Luckily one of my few skills is fetching and string making and I have geese for the feathers. So a rudimentary bow would be possible. But that is why people group so that skills are are shared and mutual safety enhanced. We should all be growing English yew

Maybe it Russia is working out the timing and location of all the aircraft sent to intercept them. Israel did the same to Egypt with devastating effect in the 6 day war right down to the morning tea breaks.

I agree 100%. Get a 22 and practise until your accuracy is limited to the rifles quality and not your skill. This includes finding the ammo best suited. If you are shooting a really large quantity of ammo then use sub sonic as the rifle will last longer. I had a lovely voere 22 but after 20 years it was no longer accurate enough to take a bunny at 50 metres. Sg and then practise. Play with chokes and use lots of paper to understand chokes and spread go various shot gauges. Then the big buy.. The rifle. I agree with the NATO calibre but I went I between 243. Although my reasons are not entirely logical, they worked for me. 1 working with a roo shooter in WA in the early 80s and he used a 243 backed up with a 223 which I never saw him use. 2 ammo weight. 243 is roughly mid weight to 223 & 308. Ask to hold 5 boxes of 308 (100 rounds) then same in 243. 3 some countries have banned military calibre rifles. Sweden is one that comes to mind. Our nanny state may eventually follow suit 4 243 is able to take down just a bit more than 223 and is still not to powerful for a lighter person to shoot without fear. 308 has a bit more punch due to its power. If you end up with all 3 you have 50% of your medium long range communication sorted. Ps practise left and right as you never know which eye will lose vision quicker as you get older and ambidextrous skills are essential for all forms of tools. Even a hammer and saw.
Ironic that now I press quick reply

Constitutionally it will be awkward for Feds to steal our money. But the states could do it easier I think. Particularly qld with only one House of Parliament. Feds would have to find a constitution section and make it fit. Then get all the rich members of parliament in both houses to agree, knowing they would lose money also. This would be hard to do without us knowing due to the current processes. If they subvert the system ie go in camera (parliamentary stealth mode) then we would know something is going on... But not what it is. States don't have constitutions that are as fixed as the Feds and can do as they please almost. Take land for roads with little regard to fair comp for someone who has lived there forever. Remember " the castle " was just a fictional movie except for the jousting poles. I want then no matter the price.
