Sooo is this not what we are all “preparing” for? Bugging in for 6 weeks should be a piece of cake for us in the know

I make my own version of savoury mince...
Fry an onion, then fry mince in same pan, add chilli flakes (to your taste), dried thyme, salt and pepper and paprika fry till fragrant. Can use whatever spice/herb combo you like. Add 1 tin of tomatoes, 1 tin pea/carrot/corn combo and 1 glass of red for flavour (while drinking 1) , if I have some dried mushroom powder helps to bulk up the juice.. reduce until most fluid has evaporated serve with grated cheese sprinkled over the top, fresh crusty bread and pasta of your choice... I usually sprinkle fresh herbs over the top. I make a big batch so I can freeze for work meals / easy dinners

The value of money is only a social construct (remember when people i n Germany wall papered their homes with $100 bills just after the war?) In the very near future toilet paper will be the new currency and we will be wiping our butts with worthless $100 bills .... just saying

1.Transient smugness when the public started to panic - change to quiet despair as has gone on. 2.Misinformation from reliable sources 3.Panicking government as described above 4. Dunning-Kruger effect in action. 5. Genuine anxiety about pandemics - not this particular one - I am under 50 and no heath problems beyond being 10-15kg overweight. Sounds stupid but an enemy you cannot see is scarier than one which isn’t. 6. Revisiting how much is to much and how much do you carry purely to share? So you have done some prepping as you have a classification of being “over weight “you stand a better chance than the “normal weight peeps

Things I have learned: 1. As prepared as I am to get flooded in /evacuation due to bushfires / local disaster / local pandemic (gastro, flu, other disease) in reality not prepared for widespread panic (although now have a better grip).
2. Have realised that will have to prep better if family are planning to come to stay (previously had preps in the event of being “inconvenienced “ for a couple of days to a week).
3. Starting now need to organise meds better (buy every 3 months even if I don’t need it) rather than buying when I have 3 months left.

Hey if a dinky show like the Simpsons could foretell corona virus 20 years ago and the impact it would have on China and the US of course the government knew

Have been an active member and at times just a lurker... when I am quiet it usually means I have my head down and bum up chipping away at goals etc sometimes I feel like I have something to contribute and other times not so much just depends on the topics that are being discussed at the time

Cruising yachties and literature covering their activities are a great source of self reliance ideas and techniques. I'm always leafing through marine catalogues looking for bits of useful equipment too. Surprising how people in SHTF lifestyle aren’t looking into this kind of living when grotty yachties have been doing self sufficiency since the beginning of time

Have been watching U tube videos of yachties recently and how they live in tiny boats cruising the ocean with no outside help/interference (one guy took 3 months to traverse the pacific by himself with nothing but his witts) most of the time they drag the laundry behind the boat on a line then periodically drag it in and soap it up then rinse it with salt water with the final rinse with the tiniest amount of fresh water I think if you have running fresh water you are not going to have much trouble

I make a pickled onion that can last a long time in the fridge... rice wine vinegar, small amount of salt (just a pinch) and a tablespoon of sugar , finely sliced onion.... Cover the onion with the rice wine vinegar in a jar add a pinch of salt and then dump in the sugar.... shake till everything is dissolved and eat the next day

Funny I would have thought chickens would have been the best option especially in a grid down situation suppose there is no refrigerator ... you basically cull when u want meat ... a bird could feed a family of 4-6 for a meal or two no refrigeration needed .... eggs can be made into a lot of meals and the birds can live on scraps/ grain in a very small space... cows/sheep/goats all need acreage, pastures and good food to thrive.

So after having no internet (we work on a remote server) and patchy phones recently it would be business as usual.... If I find out that internet is down everywhere I am going straight home after work as banks/atm/eftpos relies on internet to make transactions and as we saw with Woolworths just recently if the server is down nationally even cash is not going to pay for your groceries lol... no internet means no petrol can be pumped and other than local farmers markets / maybe local independent small grocers where cash can be king it really isn’t worth the hassle or the time to try getting “items last minute” I will be saving my money for a local market if needs be but as a prepper I should be prepared for this kind of problem

Just wondering if anyone has driven down their Main Street lately and found that that either shops are closed or there is a plethora of cheap shops taking over... I live in a large rural community that "prides" itself on being a large contributor to the global economy but 3/4 of the town seems to be either out of business or is for sale

Lets just hope your properties are worth as much as they should be ..... sorry if I touched on a subject that is personal but I know for real if you have investments in anything "government guaranteed " you are going to lose money (only thing that is guaranteed) when a crash happens
