I am a lurker/ regular/ sometimes poster / newbie (not) here and I have found on other sites you tend to get shouted down if you have a differing idea on bugging in/out/prepping/just being prepared for a small scale scenario so maybe we need a space for newbies that can be acessed by anyone that is not too intimidating/shouting down to encourage people to open up more ....

australian economy already cannot afford the welfare system/medicare/defence force/ government entitlements that we have.... how would that system even begin to work ... we would end up like Greece (if we are not already)

Have you thought about farming guinea pigs... not your usual meat but you can keep them in any state, are cheap to feed, breed like rabbits and apparent they taste like chicken!?!

My personal belief is to bug in (I know I will be in hot water over this) if there is a societal break down, the reason?
1. As much as I love camping I know I do not have the skills to live off foraging and hunting long term, however I can comfortably grow most of the food I need on my block of land that is almost considered rural.
2. Much easier to defend a house than a car/tent from the crazies we all know are going to be out there.
3. I have a network of people that when there is an excess of something we barter/trade our goods. I don't necessarily trust them 100% but I would trust them over someone I meet when the SHTF.
4. having a block of land out in the middle of nowhere is going to attract a lot of people who think they are the "new law" who can just show up and take by force what they think they are entitled to.....
Having said this if I do need to evacuate due to cyclone or fire then so be it I would be prepared to do this for a short time, I think that people who think that bugging out forever are living in a fairytail especially if they are not already living the life.

Not to mention our woes here in Australia... with one of the worst blow out budgets in a long time. Not sure if anything was presented due to the horrific events that have unfolded in the last 36 hours...
