G= granny's advice... she made it through the great depression and a war or two with a hubby and 8 kids to feed, most of the time with no electricity... makes me feel humble and a bit weak thinking of the work that entails

Ahhh Ziggysdad your book collection sounds similar to mine! My new favourite is the Ashfall series and my very new fave is "the burn" series love books about doing it tough and very nearly dying in the process.

Hey Chloe am just prepping for life in general... want to be more like my parents.... we always had food, no matter the political/economic situation, we always had a roof over our head and felt safe even if we didnt have 2 cents to rub together and we were always loved even if we didnt have the latest clothes or games or updated family car.... I am trying to live simply and more self sustainably and am working to be less dependent on the system of having to have more stuff

She likes snapdragons, but she prefers plants she can eat. That suits me to a T - I've never seen the point of ornamental plants with no culinary/medicinal/companion-planting value. Anything ornamental that flowers is good for the garden as the flowers bring in bees. You need bees to pollinate tomatoes, cucumbers, fruit trees etc their flowers alone dont have enough oomph to attract bees so you need some showy, high perfume flowers to bring the bees in

yeah i get what you mean. for us, its just more economical to buy 5kg packs. We use dried chilli to keep the weevils out. Awesome tip Myrrph and the vege recipe sounds delish .... just have to get some cabbage and will try it.... have you ever done blanched cabbage then quickly fried with a bit of butter and bacon...... mmmm mouth is watering just thinking about it

It is amazing what tastes good when we are hungry..... just 2 min noodles by themselves while not that nutritious certainly fills a hole till the next main meal or can make a great side dish ..... stir fried veges,a bit of soy and 2 min noodles has got me through a few nights as a student/poor hospitality worker and is very yum

Remmy sounds like my mum's diet growing up. Every meal they had bread fried in dripping, for breaky they had a small piece of bread with jam and cream, lunch was bread dripping and whatever was left over boiling in the pot from yesterday and dinner was veg from the garden and whatever fish my grandfather caught the night before ( he was a house builder by day and fished by night and my uncles when they were old enough trapped rabbits) everything was fresh out of the garden or preserved/canned/jammed. Mum got her first pair of shoes at the age of 7 to go to school (second hand which was quite common in those days) .... imagine 7 year olds having to live like that today lol

We had a massive 23 mm here, drizzled over three days. our massive breeze hardly even moved the leaves on the trees. Are you on the sunny coast lol I have a small tide mark at my back door and a heap of mozzies but for all the hype of "the perfect storm" we really were very lucky here

Please don't bag the people who end up here because of this video...... it was because of a weird American preppers show that I worked out (after a whole heap of googling) that there was a society of preppers and a whole world of prepping that I didn't even know about previously! (and that the Aussie preppers are for the most part are fairly normal)
