I made sour dough bread for quite a while and just made it with the natural yeasts in milled flour as another source. Pretty easy to get it going. I had yeast in my freezer for at least 5 years, worked fine.
Typically you'd get about 500g of ethanol per kg of refined sugar, though I'm guessing you're going with the raw plant with those numbers. The equipment to distillation to higher concentrations isn't trivial [40-60% is fairly easy]. The sugar would be an invaluable crop.
You're right on the fuel side of things, a chainsaw needs fuel, cutting a tree up by hand is very uncivilized.
I would agree about the hordes. There are many hunters with thermals, night vision and drones that can see far and wide. I have been thinking more towards how to disappear, with food stores you can for a while, though the dog might become food as she's good at barking. Solar on roofs, obvious crops, harvested fields, areas not over grown [because you're moving through foliage] would stick out like a sore thumb from a drone. Becoming really tough.
The reasoning for the algae is that it's about a dense a food crop as you can have and it's easy to grow and harvest oil. You could also go stealth with it as it just looks like pond scum. I think you'd only get a taste for it if you're starving.

Yeah it's interesting. I guess my fear comes from the quantity of radioactive material, a smoke detector uses sweet f'all, 1g makes 5000 detectors. So whilst not great to have that lying around out of it's container, it's not going to pose a major hazard to people. Voyager making about 270watts when new and was close to 40kg of radioactive material . So it's not high energy or anything, not enough for a house, though it's long term. The problem being if you err.. 'rapidly spread' that kind of quantity of material around in an area, people can't live there for an extended period due to the ongoing radioalogical effects. I'm less familiar with the therocouple type devices and their output, so I relied upon wiki for some info. I'm imagining that it's using a TEG [5% efficent or so] since it's reliant on cooling at the other end and more than likely a large source of radioactive material which makes it very unlikely to ever be in the public arena. [again, I am glad for this] The largest output seems to be 3000w which would give you 72kwh, about enough for two homes if you used a battery bank and it's 1 ton of highly enriched U235. So at least for that one, zero chance of that being available for Joe public [again thankfully]. Unless I've missed something there, I can see it being introduced into pace makers as only a tiny amount of energy and material is needed and it's inside you and 40-50 years of use is very long in that role, unlikely to be tampered with, though for home/car supply I can't see it happening due to the amount of radioactive material needed, the issues with safety and the gigantic cost of the materials. Solar and batteries look a lot cheaper and safer Ride on mower: Yeah, I've been thinking about doing something like that and getting one that can use implements for growing crops etc. Small scale drilling [seeding] and cultivating/weeding is doable with fairly low HP which would be sufficient for many aspects of the growing side. The harvesting is still the bugbear for me and even the smallest grain harvesters are about 10k. I've seen enough historical farming shows to know how difficult that is to do by hand. Grow corn and pick it by hand, maybe. Grow potatoes and use a fairly inexpensive harvester, possibly. You can get away with about 20hp for that. [small tractor] You really need to grow them from tubers, and have enough of them to be able to grow enough food unfortunately. I might store food, though long term without a means to grow and harvest some kind of staple food, you're doomed. Veggies and fruit don't cut it for Kjs. It's really tough growing enough food just for yourself and you need the supplies, the equipment, the knowledge and enough viable [fresh] seed. Almost all the 'self sufficient' people I've seen seem to bring in grains/beans. I think acreage, good grass and livestock is the least labor intensive and frostbite's onto that. [not sure of the numbers of the stock needed and acreage] I've considered chickens in that role though there's little data on that. I've done many spreadsheets trying to resolve the long term KJ issue without major success in many areas. Simply farmers are doing it very efficiently already, they need fuel, without which, we're all screwed. Lastly, I've been toying/researching the idea of algae as a food crop and it looks the most promising. Easy enough to set up 18sqm/person ponds that are 20cm deep, only needs a small paddle wheel to keep it circulating. [low powered solar] Fairly simple to keep a small amount of seed algae around [just needs sunlight to stay alive]. High protein, fats and many necessary vitamins. Fertilizer required. Hopefully I'll try it out in the next 6 months or so.

You left out the Voice to parliament and now boat people again. Lets hope the pushback is timely to prevent total destruction. Hehe, well you're right of course, though I did mention 'the voice loss'. Yeah, I get ya, the pushback is there, will it be in time, might not be and we could all fall into a deep hole. At least we've got some preps that give us a greater chance of success to push through to whatever is next. Change is inevitable, whatever it is.

A BMS is vital for charge management in Lithium cells, without it its just a fire ready to happen. Overcharge/undercharge and temperature are the issues and a decent BMS can address them all. Note that its the cheap Chinese scooters that flurese, but Tesla's do as well, so the technology isn't quite refined yet. Keep an eye on the nuclear battery concept. Only micro-amps at present, but wait till its scaled up.... Its a very unstable technology, as Lithium is such a reactive metal. On the other hand, you have five different fingers. What more do you want ? Yeah for sure, you're right onto it, battery management is essential and the reaction is just short of detonation. Yay. Many technologies and alternatives are working in the lab currently, we will see many changes as the technologies mature. Nuclear batteries are in Voyager I and II [1977 and still going] and the USSR put them in remote lighthouses so that the population could find them and turn them into scrap, irradiating themselves in the process. [not a joke, it happened]. Not really new technology as it can be as simple as a radioactive beta source and solar cells surrounding it. The obvious problem here is that people will absolutely open them up and contaminate and irradiate themselves accidentally or use them in not so good ways. I personally would prefer we kept radioactivity materials in very small quantities [like what's in smoke detectors] and away from the public at large. --- I'd mostly agree, fires pretty low in EV's [as they're properly engineered] and agreed you ought to know what you're doing. The engine size isn't really a consequence so much so long as the supply wires can handle the current [30hp=22kw] though the batteries might be as he a bunch of mismatched batteries from all the various sources he has collected over the years. Probably knows what he's doing. EV Tractor Yeah, I've come to the conclusion that some kind of farming is the solution to long term food problems. So grass fed stock and enough land, dense and rich crops high in kJs or EV small tractor and a means to harvest. [their are small harvesters for crops]. They look pretty easy to convert and you get lots of torque with Electric motors and often you need to add weights to the front of tractors, so no issues with the battery weight. You could even just rip out an electric forklift drivetrain even with lead acid and put it in a tractor. When not in use, the batteries become house storage. All a bit pipe dream for me, though I see how it would be the way to go if you want to go fully off-grid, self sufficent.

Love it, very mad max. Things of note. His estimate on range varies between articles this one he says 100km=1/3 and another says 100km=half. He's Eastern European, so I'll have to make a guess on the battery bank based on range though I'd guess about 40kwh, so 1kwh=5km 1kw of solar panels improperly aligned if I'm generous are going to make 2-6kwh/day depending on cloud cover, time of year. So if he ran out in the middle of the day in winter he'd get about 5km more at sunset and in summer, 15km. There's a definite advantage to having cells on the roof I did think this kind of thing would be the way to go for an offgrid/prepper vehicle. We can also say that you'll get about 10km-30km/day from the sun [if I'm being generous] The risk of fire is very real especially from over heating or damage. Runaway fires can reignite for hours, days or weeks later. Prof. Paul Christensen says the trade in second hand vehicle battery market needs to be killed now. The reason, the lack of engineered cooling system to go with it and the great risk of fire. "Essentially electric vehicles [fires] can't be put out"

It's really just the same old psychological tactic of the Globalist-commies, and instead of hating on the rich, they just bring hate on a continuously rotating group. It's a tactic of the narcissist [to which many in power are] and it's played out in media and politics all the time. Gets everyone riled up with fear and hate [in the book 1984 they called it 2 mins of hate] and then the ability to respond and think clearly is diminished. Confusion and shifting morality bedazzles the population into submission. Look, there's the enemy... no over there... no there... Woke, Climate change Covid War in Ukrane/Israel Conservatism Housing crisis [caused by levels of immigration higher than the number of houses built, aka manufactured] etc. I'm not especially worried as the momentum of push back has continued to gain momentum, slow and steady as conservatism tends to be. - the first Trump victory and the noticeable noise that was being made online. Especially the Autism/gamers/weirdo's who pushed hard online against it. - the Trump loss through obvious voter tampering - 80 million votes, more than Obama, yeah right. Brought more to the push - the mens movement is very much right wing. - people like Jordon Peterson standing up for what is right, he directly fought the notion he had to call someone by their weird pronouns. - increases in young people going conservative - go woke go broke - people vote with their dollars - Some billionaires have gone right-ish, such as Musk who has previously called himself a socialist! [yeah it could be just about profits, though that's also a sign] - comedy movies such as 'Lady Ballers' and the daily wire making an old school 'snow white' with conservative values - increased Christianity after many years of waning, some people waking up and leaving Islam
- the voice loss, booing [at the Tennis] and hatred of the Albow PM. - the push back of farmers and truckers who've had enough and the anti-EU movement building - the outrage of ruining Australia day - more people are speaking up against it - Even in music with Ben Shapiro making a top selling Rap song with a white guy.
I had a young guy I was working with who's friend called him a gay-retard, to which he and I laughed hysterically, reminiscent of my youth when being called such things was normal. The 80s were Peak non-racism and non hate really when we could mess with each other [with respect] for our differences. Laughter the cure for all of this nonsense really. I very much think that whilst it's not peak-crazy yet, that woke is coming closer to it's end, a few years maybe. The whole type of hate-based-divide and conquer has become too obvious and it looks more like desperation of the left to hold onto power. Same goes with the globalists who are most likely the cause of it. Things will balance out, life will go on, I once looked like I was on the left, now I look like I'm on the right but really it's just that I was always in the center and politics swings over time. The left bring chaos - new and exciting, crazy, split apart, change. The right bring order - fix up the crazy, coming together, old, boring and settled. Ideally more people figure out that a bit of both is the ideal human mind and the ideal human culture and politics, though that's probably beyond my lifespan.

Hey BCE1, indeed good to see ya mate. Yeah I'm still prepped as you may have guessed but you get to a point where it's sorted enough. You can go on and on forever if you really want, though I've got plenty going on, so distant side hobby. Yeah I should have checked the taste on the flour, was yours stored in a can/metallic? I chucked mine due to its age anyhow. Just cracked open two barrels which had the oldest cans [probably 15 years, stored poorly] complete mess. Chucking the lot. As mentioned I've got off cans, not worth the weight/size for the KJ, though here's another reason, stinky stinky.

I grew up with the cold war looming over us. The end is nigh etc. I started prepping of sorts when I was 16 through terror really. I think it's normal for governments to create situations and to create an atmosphere of everything's going to heck to keep us from noticing the bull-crap they pull. The drama with the housing is insane, all caused by gov. bringing in more migrants faster than the builders could build the houses. It's great for them. Climate catastrophy, wars, covid etc, all the same thing, create chaos to frighten people into submission. This is narcissistic behavior 101, which is most likely who they all are.
So do I think that WW3 is almost here, nah. It might be, though the boy has shouted wolf too much for myself at this point and there's nothing I can do about it if it were to kick off. I am prepped enough for a while for most things, so done what I can and now I'm just going to go on with life not really giving a shit about what the latest scare tactic is, real or made up. In the end, living my life as well as I can means a lot more. At least then my insurance [preps] covers a life well lived.

Just to have a bit of fun with this as I tend to favor playing devils advocate:
I don't think it's quite all the fat - 10kg bodyfat = 43 days of food in Kj. So being fat in a situation is natures way for hard times and Preppers dream. - Stress, unhappiness and low socializing [which reduces stress] is far more likely to reduce your lifespan than obesity. Best sources of happiness, being in nature, with friends, exercise. So walk with your mates in the forest, go fishing with your mates by the river, etc to live longer. - Low Vit D levels are chronically bad and are very important for immunity and cancer reduction as they are fuel for T cells. As you age, you convert less sunlight into Vit D. This is probably a factor in deaths and most importantly if your D levels are higher, much less likely to catch the various colds that are around... Vit D takes 21 days to get into your system [so daily dose 1000-2000Iu or use the rapid Vit D, which takes hours] and is helps regulate inflammation [associated with cancers] and also immune response to diseases etc. Some viruses are associated with cancers. source - Expert in the field who spent a lifetime studying it.
- Food soothes stressed people, we reach for food when stressed. Is the cause the fatness or the stress? [its probably both].
To agree Yes I do otherwise agree. Increased inflammation and decreased overall health, though I think the factors are multiple and having a little fat on you is natures prep for survival. The reason the islanders are often good at storing fat is that for long sea voyages in canoes, those who survived were those who stored fat the best for the long trips.

I was looking through my long term stored preps as I was moving. Things of note. Age 13 years - stored in buckets with a lid, in a shed so fluctuating temperatures, not otherwise sealed. Cans - most were ok, the insides of pineapple smelt, looked and tasted much the same. Some rusted or opened up created a terrible black mess. Rice - whilst I didn't cook it to find out, it was in good shape, looked identical to new rice. Beans - bean soup mixes etc. - all in good condition, looked the same, unsure of taste as wasn't cooked. Flour - fine, no discoloration, looked much the same.
Rolled oats - seemed to be exactly like new. Chicken in cans - looked/smelled fine. Pasta - perfect.
Vinegar - perfect Unopened vegetable oil - that was a surprise as it didn't smell rancid as I was expecting. I would trust ghee more though as it is solid. Worcestershire sauce - perfect Soy sauce - perfect.
There were various things like toilet paper, razors etc that I also included that were ok so long as no moisture was introduced from split cans.
Age 11 years
Ghee - I've been using my old stores up of it whilst cooking. No issues at all, still tastes like new. Seeds - I stored them in the fridge for this time and upon testing germination I did get some though not like newer seeds.
Age 4 years Cough-v preps Rice - all good
Pasta - all good
Pressure canning meals All good - I have had an occasional faulty seal with mason jars, none with using normal pasta jars with the silicone rim under the lid.
In conclusion. Whilst I took the advice that was around for long term storage at the time, its hard to know that the person giving the advice had good advice themselves, so in testing and experience, the evidence is clear. I am quite confident that my food stores are good. I do keep a slightly larger pantry though I don't see a reason to store 'normal foods' in excess anymore, it's just too much work, rotating and keeping track of it all, when your long term storage foods would suffice in a situation. I will replace some things such as seeds as they have lost their potency over the 10+ years and will refrigerate my next batch and rotate them every 5 years or so to be sure.
Easy 13+ years Pasta, rice, beans, cans, rolled oats, flour, ghee, vinegar and vinegar based sauces.
10 years Pasta sauce, oil.

I did the whole food rotation early on, abandoned it due to it being uber boring and went to a two tier system. Long term cheap, will eat it if there's nothing else that I leave for 10 or so years and then replace. As well as having a few extra shelves for more normal food. [2-3 months or so].

On this, Article 92 of the constitution suggests here in Victoria the government of Victoria may be acting illegally against all, not just the aged. Seems pretty clear to me. www.alrc.gov.au/publication/traditional-rights-and-freedoms-encroachments-by-commonwealth-laws-ip-46/5-freedom-of-movement/protections-from-statutory-encroachment-3/Then there's international law and the human rights act to which Victoria specifically was signed.
International law
5.16 Freedom of movement is widely recognised in international law and bills of rights. For example, art 13 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights provides:
(1) Everyone has the right to freedom of movement and residence within the borders of each state.
(2) Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country.
5.17 Article 12 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights provides, in part:
1. Everyone lawfully within the territory of a State shall, within that territory, have the right to liberty of movement and freedom to choose his residence.
2. Everyone shall be free to leave any country, including his own.
…
4. No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of the right to enter his own country.
---------------------- 5.20 Freedom of movement is also expressly protected in the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006 (Vic) and the Human Rights Act 2004 (ACT).[22] Section 12 of the Victorian Act provides:
Every person lawfully within Victoria has the right to move freely within Victoria and to enter and leave it and has the freedom to choose where to live.

Yeah for sure. He's security focused [10k rounds of .22, 15k rounds of other] though he shoots a lot and ex military, so makes sense that he is, it's part of his hobby.
For me I think it's progressive goals, essentially like paying a higher premium for greater insurance.
Do I have 2 weeks of food and water? - tick Do I have 1 month of food and water? - tick Do I have 3 months of food and water that will keep for 10 years? - tick
Then there's lifestyle. Do I grow veggies? Can I preserve them?
Can I ramp up my production of food if all went to heck? Can I preserve this amount? What kinds of recipes taste good with supplies and what's in the garden?
Then there's research/education. Can I do this or that? What would I do if this happened? What can I do to improve my home security?

Bob Geldof has a lot to answer for. Yup. Guilt people into giving a means in which populations can be increased without the underlying needed technology, education and more importantly culture. There's also a very unpalatable problem of average IQ, though I will leave it up to the reader to do their own research at the nightmare that is.

Politicians seem slimey to me, and yet I'm fairly sure he's the greatest politician that's come in a long time because he promises and then does the impossible. It's only the likes of Elon Musk [and some other similar people] have I seen this happen.

So looking at the original source document...
Looks to me that they were already having problems of conflict, economics and weather and the added pressure of CV9 is going to push them into crisis. Of that, whilst the first world gives those regions excellent models to follow to make their countries thrive, they choose to do their own crappy ways. I don't see an issue with world wide food supply at all from the original source. Other than the outpouring expectation of humanity relief that's coming with bloated/thin children in the near future for the problems that they brought upon themselves [weather obviously not], there's no real concern.
