Miners homestead leases in qld are a source of cheap land. Many greyer nomads avail themselves of this loophole, especially around the central qld gemfields and the like. Still a few cheap larger blocks coming up for sale around this area. Inland from bundaberg. A lot with houses and some without. 200 acres plus can be common and there are smaller blocks. You need to have the right mindset to make the move and the conviction to follow it through.

Sorry was not intended as such it was not a threat it was statement of facts same as the comment about nipple ring being ripped out in a westling contest! Anything that draws attention to you in survival situation is not wise or safe. Same as smoking and talking loudly as did the americans while in vietnam and cause a lot of them to get shot by VC! Covert is better. Oh yes and please do not quote me as saying "drilling" as I did not thanks! That was in someone else comments! I used the term puncture site! Anything that exposes you to the chance of hepB/infections or any other disease should be very carefully considered is my main point.

To run 2 fridges and 2 freezers we use 12 x rolls surrette 1350 amp hour batteries, 2 midnite classic regs, 20 x 200 watt hyundai panels and a 3kw latronics inverter. This will also run a toaster, sandwich toaster and rice cooker during the day. The system produces 13-18 kws of usable power daily. It is expensive to set up and I had to piece the system together over 3 years. You can buy 2nd hand grid tie solar panels for $50 each so do not got spending $100's on new panels off evil bay! Through a good reg 45 volt panels will charge any system voltage from 12 - 120 volts. Latronics inverters are made on the sunshine coast in qld and can be bought cheap at times off evil bay and gumtree. Unless you are an electronics geek go with flooded lead acid batteries as they are easier to maintain and a bit more forgiving to solar newbies. Trojans make a new carbon series battery for solar system and I will be getting some of them for my sons setup as they have an expected service life of 15 years if cycled properly (20% discharge per cycle and not 50-60% as some people think you can do). If you are travelling then a larger system is not practical as this system weighs 4,500 kgs plus including panels You can of course get by with a lot less power production. But come overcast weather you have big problems and fuel costs.

If you want to use 12 volt batteries it is best to invest in some plante plate batteries such as 12 volt trojans. These will last years with sensible use and maintenance. These batteries are however not suitable for starting car engines! www.ebay.com.au/itm/J150-Trojan-12V-150Ah-battery-/172451968973?hash=item2826f037cd:g:N2gAAOSwB-1YwgT7More expensive but 2-4 will give you peace of mind if running smaller inverters up to 1000 watts off 12 volts. You would however need a minimum of 4 x 175 watt plus solar panels and a good regulator such as plasmatronics or midnite classic 150. I have found that cheap and nasty do not work for long and are more expensive in the long run. Save your pennies and buy the best you can afford. Get the panels, reg, inverter firstly and make the batteries the last purchase.

I have plans for 8 x 40 foot double story shipping container house. C-purlins and tophat roof on top of the structure mounted on adjustable hot dipped gal legs. You are best to use steel floored containers as the wooden floored ones do have a lot of chemical exposure and contamination. Once you have the containers mounted and welded in position the addition of windows and doors will stop condensation issues and will ventilate the structure the same as any house. For me the big bonus is termite proofing! You can paint the outsides or insulate and screw corry to the building for a more "acceptable" look. Dunno if I will get it done before I am buggered, lol.

That is the question! But the Roma oil fields have a superior grade light crude which does not even require refining for use in diesel motors! It was at one stage being sold straight from the wells for 9 cents a liter, until someone opened their mouth and big brother came charging in and killed the operation. All that was required was a dual filter system on the trucks.

As I said keep away from anything with a micro chip board (aka hydroscan), all that is needed is a pressure tank, pressure trip switch. And no not everything is made in a 3rd world country! You just have to pay a lot more for that is not. Even makita electric tools have two grades, one made in japan (dearer) and the made in china grade (cheaper). If you do not like davey go for a grundfos, but are dearer.

That pump will most likely die! Made in china and junk from experience. Buy a davey and it will last 20-30 years with low usage. I have had one chinese pump die and my mate has had 3 die all running off an inverter. Seriously, you can not rely on them. You do not need hydrascan or the like, just a pressure tank davey model which costs between $400 - $500 and peace of mind.

Australia actually has enough crude oil, light crude and gas to be totally independent in regard to fuel usage. The Roma oil and gas fields alone are huge in area and production capacity.

With a pump reduced pipe sizes will not really effect the amount of water/pressure you get to your shower head. But as Rob said why reduce the pipes at all if the start and finish are the same diameter.

Been so hot this summer, we have had to cut back production as pumpkin vines got cooked in the heat. We have articokes (israli), peanuts, grapes, okra, pineapples, citrus, macadamias, pecans, nectarines, guavas, ambrollia, basil, dragon fruit, apple cactus, lolly berries, shallots, lemon grass, monsterio, bananas, etc etc. Takes a bit of water and care. Speaking of pumpkins wife and I were shopping yesterday and a large pumpkin was $24 in the local shop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are they kidding? $10 plus for a white cabbage as well.

Monto Rob, But martins has since closed the shop due to economic downturn in the area. I was gutted when he told me he was moving as that place was a goldmine of treasures with the prices and gear he had. Got an old coot setting up a sawmill on one of the blocks Rob and may have some sawn hardwood timber at the right price in the future.

I do have a plastic/poly welder and have done a bit with an electric soldering iron. Biggest trick is getting the right donor material.
