At this stage I have a UHF in the 4WD, a UHF and AM CB in mine and my lads backpacks but they will only be useful for short distance comms. Im keen to get into the longer distance HAM radio but currently the cost is the limiting factor.

I don't envy anyone who has to get out of suburbia and if you do have to , keep those weapons close. I cant wait to get out of the suburbs and into the country - with that amount of people around its not somewhere I want my family to be when it goes down.

edit - as an afterthought, would the positioning of a standard small freezer into the cool cupboard reduce the Ah/Wh at all? (so that it would draw less power from any available solar panels that you have/will have) I reckon your right there Kenna - if you can reduce the amount of heat available around the fridge that would otherwise enter the fridge by keeping the fridge itself cool that would reduce the amount of time the compressor needs to run to cool the internals down. I know the beer fridge in the shed uses more juice than the one in the house and it has nothing to do with the fact it gets opened every 15 minutes to grab a new one!

I like how they guy on DDP explained "cargo tape" to his son when he said isn't it just "duct tape" and he said it was easier to remember 10 C's than 5 C's, 3 D's E, F. Oh and having one G (gun) always helps!
That episode was actually presented quite well - like not to make the preppers look stupid/crazy. Maybe a new director/producer?

These things are a lot of fun! I used to be involved in the one down here in Adelaide but got out of it when it all started getting serious with insurance etc. Still good to go and watch - some people go all out!!!

Not your typical end of the world action movie, but maybe a good movie to watch with teenagers? "An American girl sent to the English countryside to stay with relatives finds herself fighting for her survival as the UK turns into a violent military state."

That is terrible! Maybe we need to start a list of business that we should boycott - only a small thing I know - but they would never be getting any money from me!

Yeah its a catch 22 - great work on the number of hits to the site, but shame about the ads. On a completely separate topic not related to the above at all I happed to come across this wonderful little add-on called Adblock Plus that hides adverts and pop-ups. Just sayin'

I came across this interesting video on welding using two car batteries which I thought may be useful post SHTF. Im no welder, but the welds this guy gets dont seem too bad.

Very interesting post Fox, I share your thoughts that there is a possibility for a zombie like disease etc to actually occur (either mutation or man made). I've posted some similar thoughts > here <
