I use 2 and 3 litre softdrink bottles for rice along with a teaspoon of salt to act as oxygen absorber. Has worked ok for me, i had some rice that was 5 years old a few weeks ago packed like this. do you add moisture absorbers also? or does the salt do that?

this pandemic reminds me of the 2 season series Jeremiah Mate, how are things in your part of the world? ? well...DORSCON Orange came and went. We started BCP exercises in case of Red. Now its back to office, minimal FTF external meetings. temp checks 2x a day, declarations for overseas travel. the number of cases declined steadily until 2 new clusters popped up due to irresponsible social behviour. We also started gettig more imported cases. I am prepped for 6 months without leaving the house.. so I'm good for the moment. The local prepper group is updating each other on stuff we see, hear and spot. so far so good

Can't take sick leave if your employer keeps you as a casual to prevent you having access to sick leave. Can't employ people as permanent staff if union risk = can't get rid of deadwood.
I paid staff extra (9% IIRC) to have the option of cleaning out underperformers. Worth every cent.
small price to pay for the option, especially if you have performance review schemes that demonstrate incompetence and effort to re-train staff but doesn't suit the pace of your company. but not every country has unions or unions are controlled by the gov

exactly. most of the times it is a rice bowl kinda reason which is very valid. I think as we move towards a gig economy, this will only get worse.
in some cultures and companies, employees are lauded for being sick and still turning up for work. to the close-minded bosses (esp. Asian ones), that shows the employee's committment to the company.
which is silly. I heard locally in sg now, there are still some bosses whom have not been enlightened. I feel sad for these folks.

A DEA officer stopped at a ranch in Texas, and talked with an old rancher. He told the rancher, "I need to inspect your ranch for illegally grown drugs." The rancher said, "Okay , but don't go in that field over there.....", as he pointed out the location. The DEA officer verbally exploded saying, " Mister, I have the authority of the Federal Government with me!" Reaching into his rear pants pocket, the arrogant officer removed his badge and proudly displayed it to the rancher. "See this fooking badge?! This badge means I am allowed to go wherever I wish.... On any land !! No questions asked or answers given!! Have I made myself clear?.... do you understand?!!" The rancher nodded politely, apologized, and went about his chores. A short time later, the old rancher heard loud screams, looked up, and saw the DEA officer running for his life, being chased by the rancher's big Santa Gertrudis bull...... With every step the bull was gaining ground on the officer, and it seemed likely that he'd sure enough get gored before he reached safety. The officer was clearly terrified. The rancher threw down his tools, ran to the fence and yelled at the top of his lungs.....
"Your badge, show him your fooking BADGE!!"

thats silly... wife was asking if we should buy too .. i told her we have a year's supply in (30++ rolls).. its DORSCON Orange not Red. When the furore dies down abit after they realise world's not ending, I'll get another 3 packet hahaha...
Food wise we are good for a year or more. Might get abit more soon. Just need some space in the freezer to freeze the rice

we are in DORSCON Orange. Office is testing social distancing - i.e. work from home...
but our numbers aren't that big yet. not an overeaction but so far its been good. The media has been sensationalising some hoarding, but actually its just normal folks just getting their 2 weeks groceries in case. the bad ones are those who buy enough instant noodles and toilet paper to last till 2035 or more...

managed to try korean pollack soup base + seasame oil + semolina... looks like a possible food store for asian cooking.
Once I am done with this, will move to rice flakes experiments

tried another round with 2 packets of dried miso powder. sesame oil and abit of canned chickpeas, with the semolina. And loads of HOT WATER.
Its really good. Good enough for dinner, 4 heaped spoonfuls.

i bought a bunch of 1. Rava/Sooji (cheap, can't really remb how much) 2. Flattened Rice flakes (500g S$1.50)
from a local indian super.
Tried adding hot water, some truffle olive, salt and pepper... and its quite delicious... works like mash potato...
Will try Rice flakes with room temperature water soon. If that works, I have a fast strike ration also!
I discovered yesterday that they have Flattened Corn too! Might buy that in another trip.

What is flattened rice? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flattened_riceMy local supers started selling ready to eat (just add water) type of flattened rice. Review of MTR Poha/Upma Ready to Eat : fodyssey.com/2016/05/16/mtr-ready-to-eat-poha-upma-product-review/I have also seen a local indian super selling just rice flakes/flattened rice by the 500g. Am just thinking this might be a good prepping food type. Its light weight and you can carry 1kg or more in PET bottles easily. Mixed with a bit of bullion or just salt and pepper with water, should make a quick calorie booster... I've tried the ready to eat meals... won't say its full enough for breakfast but it is really easy to make..
