After looking over a few threads regarding SHTF scenarios, financial collapse etc, thought I would see what people thought of foreign land (and business) ownership of Australian agricultural land, mineral resources and residential land contributing (slowly) to a SHTF scenario.
Slowly, more farm land, mineral resources and businesses are being sold to foreign companies/governments potentially leading to a loss of local jobs, resources being sent over seas, land being locked up and our country generally being controlled by companies based overseas. I realise this is simplifying a complex issue, but in the long run will this contribute to a SHTF scenario such as financial collapse, loss of resources/food or .... ??

Has been a growing issue IMO and leading to our ultimate downfall. We have been selling water rights to overseas interests for a few years now - couldn't work out why when we are known as the driest continent. All our manufacturing industry has been slowly sold or relocated overseas - at the expense of our youths future - not everyone will work in IT or the fast food industry here as there wont be that many positions at any rate. Up here in the Whitsundays and to the north the KSA(could have been another country from that region, I forget now, but near positive it was the KSA) donated monies to build a very large number of Cyclone shelters for some coastal regions after T/C Yasi made it's mark - I heard a whisper they wanted a resort in a Whitsunday hot-spot to go through with out too much difficulty as well. And I think a couple of other deals may have had a good run also so I heard - but can't confirm. Lot's of jobs up here and in the west are overseas FIFO employees with some very dodgy deals on 457 visa's. www.amwu.org.au/read-article/news-detail/1188/Union-exposes-massive-457-Visa-loan-rip-off/I have read a few horror stories.

I heard on ABC news yesterday ( or day before) that the Govt is trying to make it compulsory for foreign owned land to be made known to the general public. I will have to look for a link to verify this, but, is it too little too late??

(The Gov'ts tend to change the rules at those 3am sittings {there was a huge uproar a couple of years back on political expenditure, expenses needed full declaration for day time media and at that 3am sitting it was decided/voted - almost unanimous - that this information stayed in house}, it really appears to me that the pollies think we can't function without their astute leadership!!)!
If we knew the full extent of the sell-out there would be public lynching's.
It is saddening to me to see the blood spilt to maintain our way of life and freedoms by previous generations and their selfless sacrifices for our country only to see it sold-out by these slimy bastards.
(I bet those who paid the ultimate price would be looking on dumbfounded and asking - WHY??)

Some figures from the ABS show 49.6 million hectares of agricultural land are foreign owned as of mid 2013. Not good IMO
I agree with you Sentinel, slimey bastards....
