taking a look through one of his articles "what not to pack in your BOB", sorry but some of those just arent practical if you have family.
1/ i would ALWAYS have a decent knife in mine. but its not something the kids would even be able to reach let alone rummage through. plus, my girls already know knives are dangeroud.
2/ ipod and other gadgets. again, i think thats foolish in this day and age, especially with kids. in a bug out situation its the fastest way to calm the kids down. earphones in, and music on. close eyes. suddenly the whole scenario is much easier to handle. plus, its good to have things saved on something like a tablet or e-reader. i personally have a few dozen books solely about prepping, and like a thousand of entertainment- good for mental health of the family.
3/ duplicate items. seriously? what if one breaks, or fails? wow, this guys kind of has dropped the ball on the whole having triplicate things huh.

Remember....This is just one persons POV. Articles like this are to give you an idea of what others do, then you can modify it to suit your own needs.

and his bob seems quite spartan, considering his comment about kids and knives in bob's. kids have slightly different needs, more requirements, and more fragile mental health requiring distractions. i think he needs to make note that not everybodys needs are the same. and what he may not need, may be a requirement for others.
