Big dogs are a huge deterrent I have found. One neighbour got robbed over xmas. We left our boy with run of the yard as usual, not even a broken window. Plus we keep to ourselves. Abs the front of the house looks as trashy as the rest of the street on purpose. No garden, lawn gets neglected, lol. It's served us well to look like we spend our money on grog or drugs like most of them.

Bugging out wouldn't be our original plan... we've got nowhere to bug out to! Most of our friends and family live in heavily populated areas and we have small kids so unless it was a localised disaster we'd most likely stay put unless something changed and we felt we'd have better chances on the road. Not this Friend, you and your hubby and kids are welcome here!

My plans are based relevant to my to my immediate life threats which are fire or strong wind events. Living up in the hills on an acre in the bush you frequently loose power due to storm damage and once a year or so you can loose it for several days or more. Reality to me is not the Zombie apocalypse but real life threats from our environment and I need to focus on the more likely and worry about the less likely later.
Being able to power the house for extended periods of time, water needs, and general well being. When you sit down and seriously try to achieve this for a period of several weeks the preparation is quite daunting and expensive. With such an effort in developing our property in this manner it ends up being a bug in situation for us. The other factor is that I am the only one at home that is a prepar at heart and my family just don't get me.
I hope and prey that a real apocalypse never strikes us and do I really want to survive it, the thought of having to start again from scratch in a violent world having lost so many I love may be to much to consider. So with that in mind I develope my bug in skills and become self sufficent in as many ways possible.

I live in suburbs and not a very good area, if TSHTF then most of my neighbours will be the treat. I have seen them when they fight are believe me iit wasn't good, the worse thing is most of my neighbourhood are related to each other. My house mate, my son and I are the only whites in this street, in this area we have a lot of fights and our dog don't stop everyone from climbing our fence. We have looked at the option of bugging in but have found we would have to fortify a lot more and ever that may not be enough. I use to live off the land a lot and can do so again if I needed to, my won't stay in a place that's not safe and puts my son at risk. Besides I know the Queensland outback better then the Northern Territory outback, I have been all over the Queensland outback and I know where to take my kids to keep them safe. As for my friends up here, many don't live in town at all but on blocks of land outside of town. Also I have planned on how I will more my son and the older boys can ether walk or ride, if we can't make it to Queensland then we'll head to the boat and head out to sea.
