I like this thinking outside the box stuff, so simple yet to most people it would never occur to them.
P.S that bark looks like it would make great tinder.

This gives me an idea on how to use that monster tarp I picked up. Those shelters are genius!

Cool idea, good stuff Res-Q. Any idea how much weight something like that could hold? Shame the forest will be knocked down

This morning i decided to head out to the wetlands again for a scout around. I put on my tin foil hat and set up my "Stealth " camp just in case NSA satellites were watching Seriously, I just wanted to test out my DIY hammock which is basically 2 x 2 Metre lengths of rip stop nylon from Spotlight. An overhand knot is tied at both ends with a metre of paracord for tie offs. The ridge line is made up from shock cord from bunnings and the tarp is from Mosquitohammock.com. Between the two layers of nylon is a simple car windshield reflector from supercheap autos to stop "cold back" syndrome from wind passing under the hammock. This shelter is perfect for quick set up and take downs, wet and undulating ground. I have a Hennesey expedition Asym hammock but i find i like the simplicity of this shelter especially on day trips when i like to keep pack weight and space to a minimum. On the way back out i decided to take another route and much to my surprise i found another camp site. The bright green tarp is what caught my eye first. Lots of stuff scattered around the tent looks like they were settling in for a few days and it was too big a tent for one person. My first thought was Gee, maybe it was our new coastie member prepared mum and maybe i should introduce myself. . But i did'nt want to scare her off on her first day here So i quietly stepped back into the forest and returned via the original route. Just go's to show "when you think your alone " someone from AUSPREP is watching

Nice quick and simple set-up Res. Also like the idea of the windshield visor in the bottom of the hammock

Nice quick and simple set-up Res. Also like the idea of the windshield visor in the bottom of the hammock yet another thing that could be scavenged from a vehicle to be useful in a camp. Must remember that one.

I was thinking this about your tarp as well. Colours really do stand out, I was over at my neighbour's the other day and while we were talking a patch of bright blue caught my eye, I wasn't even looking in that direction, the mind just flagged something seen at a subconscious level in my peripheral vision, it was our new container. I'm currently fixing that lack of "light discipline".
How much does it weigh?

Light enough for these old knees to carry it on a scout . I Just take the tarp, nylon hammock, water and survival kit for a few hours. I don't weigh stuff, If it feels too heavy i usually just go back and ask myself do i really need that item. The gear i carry for an overnighter is the same i would carry for 1 week with adjustments for food and water. My pack contents: (1 day to 1 week) Hennesey hammock - Expedition Recon 3 - 5 sleeping bag thermal top & bottoms Wool cap gloves spare wool socks windshield mat Above items in a compression sack Pathfinder stainless steel bottle / canteen / cook set Gas mate burner & 220gm cannister 1 x block hexi tabs lighter x 2 scourer soaked with detergent in ziplock bag spork Survival / Rescue kit items below Med kit (small boo hoo kit + 2 x snake bite bandages) knife x 2 life straw ferro rod signal whistle cordage x 5 Metres signal mirror SOL 2 person emergency sheet Personal Locator Beacon PLB Above items are carried on my person in a pouch. PLB on belt Pruning saw Poncho camera spare batts seat cloth (Improvised seat ) half a dunny roll hand sanitiser shemagh Headlamp- fenix This fits nicely in a 35LT pack. I'll get around to weighing it this week. I'm curious myself now how much it weighs.

Yes, once you go for one night it's the same equipment you need for 10 or 30.
