I couldnt help myself, I saw this on the net and thought i have to go out today and try this. Some great outside the box thinking to a problem with transpiration bags which is taking the bag off the tree every time you want to drink the water. This technique allows you to drink from the bag whenever you like. First cut the top off a juice bottle then cut a small hole in the corner of your bag. push the corner through the bottle neck and fold back. Screw the top half of the cap back over the plastic and thread. I love the bloody internet!!!!!

Great post. Ive always wanted to try this.
Love the addition of the pop top lid and bottle cap top on it also. Would make a potentially difficult situation much easier.

that's very clever, thank you. So does this work by the tree taking moisture from the soil and sweating it out during the day?

Very clever. We used to do the bag over the leaves when were kids, just for fun when we were out camping.

Good idea. Do transpiration bags actually collect a lot of water?

I have not actully tried it yet, but what I have seen and read, It is one of those things you can set up and walk away and do other task and I will do what it has to through out the day. you just come back and reap the rewards, in the books they usally say you set up a few, not just the one, incase the tree does not produce a lot, or you have a hole in your bag that you did not know about. when I get around to trying it I will set up probably three and see how they go.

Good idea. Do transpiration bags actually collect a lot of water? I've gotten just under a cup of water each time I've tried it. It dosent sound like much but theres no effort and waste of valuable energy. On the other hand dont waste your time with a solar still dug in the ground that is so popular in the SAS survival manuals. The time and energy required to dig a hole especially with a stick for the return is negligible. The amount of water my son and i got out of one left in the sun all day was just enough to cover the bottom of the cup.
