that is very interesting. It is a shame, personally i would love to move to the US, even if it was only for a few years. I know that employment is an issue but my particular skillset is quite good for finding work wherever i go (as long as there are computers)

Took a client(I'm a disability support worker) to a bank to open a Westpac account here in NSW. One of the questions they asked."Are you a US Citizen?" Apparently the US .Gov is cracking down on foreign earnings by US citizens and is trying to stop them hiding money or income off shore in order to minimize tax.

Hi 1stworld - I have a lot of friends there always wishing they could move here. Spent quite a few years there-loved my time, and was a real eye opener. You do have a very beautiful country ( and I'm not just talking Southern gals either ).

My neighbour's daughter is married to a yank and they live in the US. Interestingly though they are funding the building of the house on his property, I haven't asked yet but I wonder if that will be their BOL.

The problem we face here is that it's those who are fairly wealthy and would employ other American are the ones who are leaving. SO along with those jobs (maybe it's just house staff or the like but they are usually good jobs for folks.) leaving the country...gone to are the taxes they pay. What is replacing them are dependent people entering our country. I have thought of leaving so many times. I could live very well in Costa Rica on my retirement. My kids keep me here. nothing else.
For those that wonder why I don't have some sort of commitment to the US. I do... it's to the constitution. The country is beautiful..but so are others I have been to. And you might note the creed within my avatar it says De Oppresso Liber..which means to free the oppressed. I can do that in a great many places. The spirit of freedom is universal and it only takes a few to defeat the mindless many who think a group has the right to dictate how you live. China is the antithesis of us. Their people are engrained with the idea of spare the one for the collective where we believe risk the many for the individual rights.
Sorry if I am coming across assholish..I am having one of those nights.

Another problem I see is that it is so hard for smaller businesses to make it here. All of the red tape and taxes virtually guarantee that overseas competition has the upper hand. Business is moving away from our shores rather than starting up here in America. .

Similar issue with businesses here is Oz, the cost of doing business makes it difficult and hard to compete with other countries.
