Homegrown terrorist Mohamed Elomar pledges to bring the horror here: Australians should be worried, he says
A SYDNEY Islamic terrorist photographed with the decapitated heads of his “enemies” in Iraq has sent a chilling message that Australians “should be more worried about what’s coming”.
Mohamed Elomar is also using social media to recruit radical followers. The former boxer, who claims to be recovering from a gunshot wound to his knee sustained fighting with terror group ISIS, regularly posts gory photographs and has linked to an al-Qaeda terrorist manual.
AFP ISSUES ARREST WARRANTS FOR ALLEGED TERRORISTS
Using his known Twitter alias AbuHafs, Elomar took aim at the Australian Federal Police, ASIO and media after a warrant was issued for his arrest. “They are a cancer, it’s not about terrorism it’s a war on Islam, they need to be stopped,” he said.
“ASIO don't worry I'll be bak in direct conflict soon just need a bit time for my knee injury. U should be more worried about what's coming to Australia.”
Elomar’s friend, convicted Sydney terrorist Khaled Sharrouf, who posted similar violent photographs and is also wanted by the AFP, closed his Twitter account on the weekend.
ASIO and AFP chiefs have expressed concern about Australian-based or returning radicals using information available to them online to facilitate homegrown attacks.
Elomar, whose family claims does not use Twitter and whose image has been photoshopped, has defended his gruesome beheading spree.
“Let them rage all they can, beheading is wat feeds the mujahideen of the Khalifa it keeps them moving forward,” he said on his AbuHafs’ Twitter account.
The security agencies, who rely on social media to track Australians fighting in Iraq and Syria, would not confirm any material appearing on the Twitter accounts.
On July 19, Abu Hafs posted a link to a 179-page al-Qaeda “training manual”, encouraging his followers to “get radicalised”.
He followed up with a message about downloading terrorism material from a net cafe to “hide ur identity”.
The jihadist Declaration of Jihad manual includes criteria on who is eligible to be a jihadi, how to assassinate enemies, how to gather intelligence and forge documents, and how to communicate secretly.
The manual was located by Manchester Metropolitan Police during a search of an al-Qaeda member’s home.
“This secrecy should be used even with the closest people for deceiving the enemies is not easy,” the terrorist manual reads. It offers advice about concealing passports and other strategies, used by some young Australians who have left the country to join ISIS.
Sharrouf, who slipped out of Australia using his brother’s passport, is a prime example of a terrorist using a fake passport to escape detection by authorities.
The Australian Federal Police last night confirmed officers were monitoring airports in case the pair tried to sneak back into Australia and that they would be arrested on sight.
However, police sources said negotiating with foreign counterparts was a “lengthy and detailed” process and it could be some weeks before overseas agencies become involved in the hunt for Sharrouf and Elomar.
