My biggest concern when it hits, it will do unrepairable dammage to the electrical grid...

The good news with CME (as opposed to EMP which I doubt we'll ever see in Oz) is that if you are off grid you will be OK, in as much as nothing you own will get fried. Of course there's the small matter of the rest of society turning to sh!t.
