Ive seen and read a few stories on this. It went from a smallish protest to full blown anarchy in a very short time.

Been following news and on another forum. Yes US police are more militarised than most first world countries domestic policing organisations. However look at how out of hand things got in the London riots and other cities in England. So ask yourself, are you the type of person who needs to fear police treatment of people who are rioting and looting?

Yep, the English riots are a perfect example of the power of the mob and how the police just didn't have the resources to deal with it

Just reading more on this. The story seems to unfold more and more the longer it goes on.

No big secret that most of us here are cops. Good ones. We JUSTLY and FAIRLY support and defend The Constitution and our citizens AND our military every single day. NO ONE loves the military more than we do. But I am so tired of people saying the cops have and don't need "tanks" and body armor ... blah, blah fooking blah. IF we are lucky... we have surplus vehicles that happen to be armored for the same reason the military guys need it. They keep us from being fooking shot. They are DONATED because most LE agencies are flat assed broke. But they are NOT tanks. There have been numerous cases of armored LE vehicles being shot by rifle fire to include .50s. So I guess if someone beat you to death with a frozen roll of cookie dough you could call it a heinous murder weapon ... or you could just make friggin' cookies. Turns out this Missouri shithead was a 6'4, 294 pound robber who tried to take a cop's gun. Have YOU ever tried to defend a weapon disarm from a robbery suspect (caught on video) that is the same size as an NFL lineman? And here's another newsflash for ya ... If ... WHEN ... IS shows up here ... It won't be the US military or your local militia or some internet fooking commando that gets the call when the 9/11 lines become jammed. It will be some kid in a blue suit and a squad car. At that moment in time .... you can call it whatever you want ... but he is front line INFANTRY in the war on terror (quoting Sgt. Major Mark Spicer). It ain't Mayberry out here anymore. Mark my words or better yet ... ask the soldiers at Fort Hood, Texas. If you haven't been there then please spare us your uninformed commentary. The cops ... aren't your enemy. But go ahead ... waiting on you cop haters ... even you military guys that should know better (because WE don't second guess your work) ... to run your sucks. It will be the last time you do it here.

good on him, while I am not the biggest fan of the police as an institution, and i realise there are a lot of coppers out there on power trips, I have met quite a few, especially in rural areas, that are good blokes who just want to help..

Racial tension is high in the US right now. Things like this only serve to fan the flames. If the kid hadn't been black it wouldn't have made the national news. I'm surprised yall are hearing about it...

Can't find the link but there was a heap of posted pics saying which pic should the media use to portray a black individual. One was looking dodgy in 'gang' style clothing and everything and then he had another pic of himself in full marine dress uniform, there were quite a few contrasting pics there! I believe it started because the news showed a pic of the victim and it was a 'gang' style one.

From Revolution News: #Ferguson #ResistTheCurfew #ACAB Peaceful protestors who defied a state imposed curfew were attacked by police in militarized gear, after live streamers and media were isolated from the scene. The crowd of about 200 was dispersed by cops who shot dozens of tear gas bombs, and blasted activists with an LRAD sound device. Gun shots were heard. One person got shot in a leg by a real bullet; it is not known who fired. There were also an unknown number of arrests. While being attacked by police, the crowd chanted peacefully "no justice, no curfew", defending freedom of speech and assembly. The cop who executed Mike Brown on August 9 is still at large. The media quoted his neighbors saying police helped him move out before his name was made public due to increased pressure from ongoing protests.   |

Agree the media coverage is pretty rubbish. Seems to go from the police are big, bad bullies to the police are doing a good job in a tough place. Either way I don't think we are getting the full story, but what is happening is madness. Shows how quick things can spiral out of control

How he had that day, committed a crime. How he was 6' something and over 250lbs, the equivalent to an NFL linebacker. How he ATTEMPTED to disarm a police officer during the altercation. Justice was served regardless of race. I am not racist, but the fact it has been turned into racially motivated riot, is just pathetic. Black, brown, white or yellow. He got what he deserved. If this had of happened in AU i would be saying the very same. NOW, fast forward to the news tonight. Nothing reported other than the locals want justice and that the officer in question needs to be charged with murder. |

No idea Aus. Good on them though if they are protecting their property and not going out of their way to inflame the situation further.
Lots of talk about about peaceful protests......how is looting (from your own community!!!) a peaceful protest?
