Hey all, just wanted to get some feedback from other members about custom made gear. My wife is launching her cloths line, all hand made. Sooo typical me wants to steel some of the staff to work on my shit, prepping.
So, I am going to get them to start making some custom made backpacks, the price of backpacks seems to be a little too high for what they are, not looking to make money out of it, just wanting to get some cool stuff made and see if I can come up with a good design for a backpack prepper style.
Any feedback, design ideas would be most appreciated. And yep happy to have them make backpacks for forum members. General cost is about $5 dollars in labour (pending on the difficulty) to make them plus material. So really we should be able to get some pretty good backpacks made for preppers at a good rate as possessed to paying $65 for a basic hunting pack.
If there is something else you think I could have them make let me know also. All you will have to pay is the cost plus shipping to where ever you are. There is only one catch, you would have to do the design work yourself, normally if someone wants something custom I will draft something up however I really don't have the time to do that at the moment so if you draw up some patterns then I will get them to make it.

Cool AT, I am going to get some prices on fabric tomorrow and see some samples, not sure what to make them out of yet. Was just thinking canvas although kevlar would be pretty kick ass.

yeah that looks pretty cool. I was thinking of something like this for the straps. Head goes through the green section at the top so you are wearing the pack as a shirt sort of. The grey area is the "straps" on the back you would have straps also to attach a swag or large tarp.

Molle compatibility would be a plus as that expands the options for the end user

Very good point NH. Remember though I am not going to be mass producing anything. I am just making some different ones for myself. Whoever wants to design there own that are free to do so and I will get them made up for you.

Capacity for the main pouch would be around the 50-60L mark, so something reasonably strong but preferably as light as possible. What sort of options are there?

Anything you like really, if I can't source the material here I can always import it. I will do a little research and see what is commonly used in different types of packs. I will shop around tomorrow. I am also going to get them to make me some more cloths, cargo pants with some extra pockets so looking for material for that. Once I get them to make a few things for me I will post some pics here.

The 5.11 taclite pro pants are my go-to pants. I've got 3 colours (plus two dark navy for work) I wear for nearly anything other than going out of an evening when I'll wear jeans.
I really know nothing about fabric other than 1000D Cordura is too heavy haha

Which one are you talking about wolfstar? I've got a Maxpedition 'active shooter' satchel, I was planning on throwing it in with all the gear I'm selling at the moment but forgot.

If I used Ballistic Nylon it would be light weight and water resistant. Material cost would be around the $10 mark I am guessing and labour could be about the same. I will have them make one for me so I can see how long it takes.

a quick search on ebay shows that material is about $7 to $10, labour is pretty cheap as they should be able to make one in a day. If they are expensive it would cost me $30 for the day, if they are average price about $15 for the day. A basic pack should be done in about half a day. I have never made one before so don't really know how long it will take.

Keep me posted brad, this is getting very interesting. I like it.
Wolf, it's not had much use. I set it up as my 7600 mag carrying and 1day survival bag. Great bag and thankfully didn't have to bug out with it haha. It's still as new pretty much, can't see any damage but there is some light marks near the strap where it's rubbed and I think it might be gun oil. I think I paid about $100 for it, so how does $60 posted sound?
Edit: forgot to add my one is tan. I think they also come in green or black.
