Most chemist sell it, just ask for potassium permanganate, I went to a chemist and ask a bloke there if they had Condies crystals he look at me like WTF, then he ask one of the older ladies that worked there and she said do you mean Potassium permaganate. from memory it was about $8 for a small canister, And also when you try and start a fire with it, its not as easy as it look like on you tube. persistence pay off on this one.

hey Res-Q, let me know what you find best for fire lighting. I found coolant work very quick, I have a bottle mixed with water and use it for all the kids cuts and scrapes, It is a great item to carry in you BOB even down to water purification. it doesent tast that bad either.

Chemists sell it in 50g plastic containers. Buy more than one and they'll think you're dodgy

No wolfstar, you mix the Potassium Permanganate with coolant and you will start fire, mix the Potassium Permanganate with water and it can be used for heaps of things from purifying water to a wash for cuts. I tried mixing with sugar's brake fluid and coolant, they all got hot and sizzeled but the coolant burst into flames. its all trial and error. Paul

had me worried for a minute! lol (it can cause significant kidney damage when ingested even dilute, best treatment is liquor believe it or not!)
i actually had no idea potassium permaganate could be ingested tbh. ive only used it in chemistry, lol, and even that was some years ago now

I bought some from a farm supply store. Good to put in the chickens water....also tried to start a fire with it. Epic fail. Tried crunching with sugar, Mixing it with glycerol.... Gave up in the end. Still put it in my chickens water thou. And be careful the stuff stains a dirty brown colour and is almost impossible to get off clothes and skin.

Thanks Clownface I watched the video and his neck of the woods the temp was 60 or 70 degrees F. Which is about 15 degrees C here. Thats pretty cold for his AO. While out shopping for the 20 dollar challenge i went to the chemist and purchased Potassium permanganate and Glycerine. I poured some powder onto some cardboard (shameless plug for business SEE LINK BELOW) then made an imprint with my thumb and poured some glycerine into the hole. By the way, Its raining heavy here this morning and i'm under the awning with the rain and wind pelting down whilst testing this stuff. Anyway, in less than 60 seconds the mix burst into flames. I was caught off guard with how fast it reacted. I'd just finished taking the before shot and BAM up it went. The guy in the video said you wouldnt have this stuff in your first aid kit! Maybe not but now i will. I now have the means for water purification and gylcerine for other medical conditions with the added bonus of fire starting Another PROVEN option of fire making added to the tool kit. I'm a happy man today

hey Good work Res-Q, when I done it I only got a flame half the size of yours but I only used half as much. so that makes sense. All this means is I will have to go and buy some Glycerine this weekend.
thanks Paul

Got to the shops and got my self some Glycerine, so I got home and had to give it ago, I mixed it and waited, no action the misses laughed and said Im glad we tried it now and not when we are out camping and need it. I thought maybe my mixture was wrong so I mixed some more , as I was mixing the second lot the first started to react and go off. <script type="text/javascript" src="safari-extension://com.ebay.safari.myebaymanager-QYHMMGCMJR/d216fe21/background/helpers/prefilterHelper.js"></script>

Following on from this thread i went out and made a container from two lipton ice tea bottles. I cut them off just below the neck and placed an old plastic store/ loyalty card between both ends and super glued both sides down. I can now store Glycol and condys crystals in the one container. If you want to have a go at this project the King of random has a great youtube tutorial on his channel.

Hmmm I'd be concerned they'd leak... then set my pack on fire.
