Hootchie cord. Head down to aussie disposals or similar. You should pay around 8 bucks for a 50m length on its own plastic spool. If you have options for diameter just get the thin stuff. I dunno what the ratings are but the thin stuff (2-3mm-ish diameter) will serve well in this and most other tasks and bends more easily for little jobs.

Sounds good, rolls up easy?? and stores well?? Weight ratings don't really matter, its primary use would be for spear making, and maybe emergency shelter lol

Hey pheniox17 you could buy yourself or make a paracord bracelet, the cordage is great for many thing and melts quite well. then you could also add a emergence whistle into it as the clip. I made myself one and has probably 5 to 10 meters of cord in it. also how have you made your fire started. If you don't like the bracelet idea you can just put some cord in you pocket you will never now it is there.

Paul I like the paracord bracelet idea, and own one, but that's last level of kit (its a ferrite rod one) redundancy of redundancy Lol The fire starters are quite simple, vasaline soaked cotton balls wrapped twice (so think a + but covers gaps, dont quite have the right word for it) in 3m (brand) narrow duct tape Very fiddly to do and why I went for the expensive fire steal, as the original one I had, got vas on it and it stopped working (wonder why ) The kits focus was the bear bones to sirvive if you need it (so instead of 0 chance your chances rise a little) Cordage is the biggest internal hurdle i habe, fishing line dont like been wrapped around a bic lighter, the cord that AT suggested may be perfect there, and may do the line around the arrow card... As have some space left.. No food or water bottles in this kit (some rubbish 600ml coke bottles will do if desprate, the $10 covers a water bottle and basic food items if avalible, corner stores/take away even some survos will still trade if no power) What else... This is a kit focused on 2 things, getting home, and once home it becomes a sirvival kit if you loose everything, it should be good for "easy" 48 hours of travel, but once you get home, you wont be very healthy There is still a bit of room in the kit to add minor improvements, (thinking alcahol wipes) Food and condoms not concidered as the size, i can store it anywhere for any period of tine, open it and use it... The approx cost for more using a cheap fire steal and half the arrow head card is just under $40 a unit, but exactly whats pictured your looking around 60-70 a unit (fire steal is 20 something more than a cheap one) End of the day its a back up kit... But its size and shape (a little smaller than a 25 pack of smokes) it will help me blend in while the first stages of a event is happening, and since i cant carry a hand bag, well... Lol

Not sure if you enjoy a coffee but consider adding/swapping some of the water purification tabs for nodoz/caffeine tabs or even single serve sachets of instant coffee. Given the duration capacities of this kit you're probably more likely to need an energy boost or to stay awake /alert more than purify 10L of water.
Also some foil folded flat will give you heaps of possibilities and take up very little space

Nice kit P17 I like that you have redundnacy with the fresnel lens, lighter and ferro rod. The same with the puritabs and the povodine swabs for water purification. Instead of a coffee satchet which would give me a boost. Maybe a few hydralyte sachets instead to keep electrolyte levels up and stop cramping. A plastic sandwich bag for water collection would fold up nice an tight. IMHO I'd dump the mini compass if it was mine. I dont know why people insist on carrying them in a survival tin. You dont have a map so If your lost in the middle of no where, all the little red needle is going to do is tell you where north is . Your still lost!!!!!! If you can find one cardinal mark you can find them all. You know that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. Take a bearing with your right arm stretched out to your side and pointed at the sun which is East, your left arm outstretched on the other side will automatically be pointing West. Your nose will be pointing North and your arse will be pointing South. Pick your cardinal mark you want to follow then pick an object along that line and away you go. The sistema water resistant case your using are the ducks guts i reckon. Overall i really like the functionality you have in your kit. Thanks for sharing

Compass is just a "fad" item, might only use it once or twice just to confirm I'm going the right direction home, you know that feeling when your super lost, and within a few hours it can really screw with your head, so the compass helps you on the right track The iodine wipes are also a first aid item, in a pinch it will save your life of you have a minor infection (before it becomes major) Moral boosters are good, but not 100% needed when its primary design is 48 hours, I am interested in zip lock bags for both water storage and collection, but you can get water to boiling point in a coke can, and there are tones of empty bottles dumped daily so that may not be such a issue... (plus the $10, will get you a bottle of water, a cheap can of coke, gum, chocolate, and a some bags of chips and lollies, not a lot but in a pinch, will get you home) Have to remember this is a bear bones kit, its original focus was fire before I built it, but what's the point on just a fire kit when you can add a few items and its a survival kit Then your home, now whats the kit for?? Restock if needed and it adds to your BOB, so if you loose your bob you still have a fighting chance I love the container, as i have some that arw nearly 10 years old and are just starting to brake, same size as this and under heavy punishment/use (the metal tins are going for $20+ for same size, this one is $6 or a 3 pack at woolies) and i know that they will last All I need to do is get off my a$$ one day and test it... but in theory it covers a few bases, of the basics, and that's its design focus, the absolute min in a package to survive anything

Given the duration capacities of this kit you're probably more likely to need an energy boost or to stay awake /alert more than purify 10L of water. Also some foil folded flat will give you heaps of possibilities and take up very little space 10L of good water, 5L of questionable water and 3.3L of really bad water Lol (my plan here is 600-800 ml bottles, and treat the water one pill per bottle and hope for the best Lol) There is still a lot of room with the use of the small fire steal, so will look at some water flavor (even coffee + no doz) just can't be temp sensitive, al foil is good, but I don't think it will store a useful amount... Good feedback tho...

No worries kits are personal. The compass rant was just my 2 cents worth, I'll get over it when the meds kick in . +1 on the inclusion of cash in your kit. I reckon your on to a good idea with testing the kit. Maybe down the track we should do a PSK overnight challenge to see if we can survive outdoors for 24 hours with just the contents of our kits.

Compass rant is justified, I feel the same... Its inclusion was only due to watching some air crash investigation shows, where a minor lapse in judgement leads to tunnel vision, and if your feeling lost, it dose trigger some bad reactions... As when you start your trip, you are assumably in good mental and physical condition, and have a general direction to go (eg if traveling from Brisbane cbd to cavil ave gold coast, going south east will get you there quite well) but a half a day in, wile under stress, its easy to get "lost" then make mistakes, the cumpass just gives the false sence of security and something to put your nind at ease
