Llli was talking to my house mate about what he thought would be the event that coursed TSHTF and he said a meteor shower would be a concern, what do al of you think ?
I told him that if the meteor hit the land and was not too big we could survive it but if the meteor is large enough it could wipe us out, unless you went underground or could find some caves to hide in then you may survive.

where do I start...
meteor shower on its own (multiple meteor's) just large enough to impact earth through its atmosphere, will cause more damage than all the bombs used in WW2
A single large asteroid tho is another story...
first depends on location of impact (2:3 odds will hit water)
if hits water the resulting tsunami will wipe out most of the planet, if large enough, and hits in the right places, will also cause a "nuclear winter" (a nuclear winter is the dirt/dust is in our atmosphere causing a ice age, also a lot of asteroids contain radioactive isotopes, in English dirty nuke, but that's worse case)
being underground will improve chances but its pure luck, there are so many factors in this event, all depending on size, but you will get zero warning, if lucky maybe a day to kiss your ass goodbye...
but let's say it hits, how long do you live underground for?? well that's another unknown, could be years, decades or centuries, or forever (again worse case earth is knocked out of orbit...)
so my thoughts in a nut shell

My house mate has had a recurring dream that the earth will be hit by several meteors about the size of footballs, some hit land and others hit water. I've come to trust in his dreams as he has been right on with the cyclones other the past few yrs, he was with me in Mission Beach and foresaw the cyclone that hit it. We got out of there 3 days before it hit, some as the cyclone in Cairns when I was visiting my mum before she passed. He's a pain in the butt most of the time but he's good when it comes to foreseeing natural disasters, he's hasn't been wrong yet.

Then what do you wanna know about them???
Multiple small ones like your describing will make a massive mess, think a artillery bombardment... Will be massive shock and awe with that one...
Again depends on impact area... The small size ones your describing won't cause much long term environmental damage, more infrastructure, and effect to man damage...
But let's say it is a good sized one and hits the entire continent of Australia, it will be generation changing, if really unlucky and its a world wide event (statically almost impossible) it will be a game changer...
But I have to ask again what info are you after?? Your question was on thoughts?? My thought is its likely to happen, and we will have no warning to it happening till "the sky is falling" and at that point its about luck, you may or may not get time to goto a prepared bunker, your home may or may not get hit with one of those meteors....

I was just wanting to know what others thoughts on the subject as it's a topic that has not come up before and it is a possible threat.

Yes, a asteroid wiped out the dinosaurs....
So it is a threat, its not highest on a lot of peoples lists, but it is a legitimate threat to our way of life and a possible cause of a world ending/changing event...
A shower like you discribed wont be pretty... It is possable...
For how a lot of us prep, most will feel the heat, may loose a bulk of supplies/stockpiles... Some may even be one of the many deaths from such a event... But also there are other issues like what is the materials in the meteors if radioactive or hazardous will be more concerns

If a meteor hits, you have two options, if it lands anywhere near you, your most likely dead, so don't worry.
But again, it has so many variables, size, composition, angle of entry, location of impact etc.
again if it is a big sucker, or one that is mostly iron, and it hits either land or onshore, the debris would cause a nuclear type winter, so solar panels would be out. plus the initial heat wave would kill millions, if it hit a city of any size.
Sadly a meteor impact scenario is not planable for, unlike civil unrest, flood, fire, etc. You either live through it, or die, end of story.
But hey, you have more chance of getting eaten by a shark, hit by lightning and run over by a bus all on the one day that a meteor wiping us out in our life time.
Lets get ready for this years meteor shower in November and enjoy the beautiful light show.

Lol, Lighting won't do me harm but it hurt others, sharks stay away from me and buses bounce. To be honest I worry more about those that are mine then I do about myself.

I disagree in planable to survive, everything is survivable, it just has its own unique challenges (just because some don't want to survive such a event ) Nuclear winter is survivable, but no solar means alternative power generation (so treadmill generators) (That one is just to point out a solution to one of many problems) Everyone here prepares for something, wouldn't mind seeing more unique scenarios discussed outside the popular emp or financial collapse and this one allows more room for thought and more variables to the zombies (and zombies are so much fun)

Laugh out loud, I tend to look at all scenarios, I have had a very full and weird life. I should have died many time over but I'm still here, I now have what's mine and will make sure they survive too.
