I have put posts on a number of forums about privacy and how it is long gone with mixed replies. Some people say it isn't possible, others say there is nothing wrong with most of the laws if you have nothing to hide. Well, if you have nothing to hide then the below update from crime stoppers won't bother you then. Any one here have a knife at home, credit card knife, slingshot? ? Heck even having metal tubing "shaped like a submachine gun" Source of information, Read between the lines when they say "information was provided to Crime Stoppers about the suspicious activity of a man who was allegedly researching information online". Who would have access to a persons search history?? Any search you do can be seen as suspicious, and by the sounds of this if you are a prepper you are in serious shit. Also, what is the problem with wanting to learn how something is made? Crime Stoppers NSW October 10 CRIME STOPPERS RESULT A tip-off to Crime Stoppers has led to the arrest of a man after ammunition and weapons were seized during a search warrant at Berala. In July 2014, information was provided to Crime Stoppers about the suspicious activity of a man who was allegedly researching information online about manufacturing firearms. Police from Flemington Local Area Command conducted investigations into the report and yesterday (Thursday 9 October 2014) conducted a search warrant at premises in Berala. They were assisted by Bass Hill Region Enforcement Squad and the State Crime Command’s Firearms and Organised Crime Squad. During the search police allegedly located ammunition, expandable blades, two ‘credit card’ type knives, metal tubing shaped like a submachine gun, a slingshot and a manual on how to manufacture firearms. A 42-year-old man was arrested at the premises and taken to Auburn Police Station where he was charged with possession of ammunition, goods in custody and possess prohibited weapon. He was granted strict conditional bail and will appear in Burwood Local Court on Tuesday 28 October 2014. Investigations into the alleged activities of the man are continuing.

I actually read this article a few days back when it was posted. Was unsure how to take it. Yeah it is a tricky one, if that is all the information they need to get a warrant to search a house then everyone is pretty much on the list. This is a case where they should give more info to prevent people from having a go at them about privacy. Because if that is all the need then what is going to happen to anyone searching how to make X. What pisses me off is the police are sitting around doing stuff all or focused on revenue. I have given them leads, actual addresses of Australia's most wanted (killers, etc) and they do stuff all. I just had a go at them today about it, told them when they actually want to catch these people to give me a call and stop wasting my time. I do it for free, but when they don't bother to catch them I can't see the point. This news update was annoying because it appears they have arrested a person for going a search on how something is made when they could have got in the car and put a killer behind bars. Either there is a heap more to this "Google search" case or it is really as dumb as it sounds.

Its either a case of
"theres much more to it we cant tell you cause it'll freak you out"
OR
"We really had nothing and wanted to appear we are doing something"
Scary part, i have 3 of these card/knives in the post as we speak. Not the $2 ones though, the genuine ones.

If your curious about homemade guns, watch this episode of The Force, shows that someone "interested in how they work" can actually be a nutter

Hey Joey, there are definitely some nutters out there however searching the internet for how something like a gun is made shouldn't put someone on a watch list. I google everything (god knows what they think of me). I watch a documentary and then do some research on it. I love watching the show how it's made and again google some things.
There are a lot of crazy people out there and while I don't believe everyone should be making guns a home I do believe there should be some sort of clearance (used for lack of better words) that one could get if they are involved in research and development. The private sector are behind the majority of advancement, this is due to many reasons however the main one is passion.
I am always looking for things that could be made better or creating new products, and like I said search for a lot of things in different areas. In the case on the above video they should look at giving that kid the option (if they believe he is mentally stable), prison or military. If a kid that young has a passion for something like that he could very well be the "Tony Stark" in the real world.

To be honest Joey, that kid got too light a sentence, two years and eleven months for arms manufacturing and dealing? should have thrown the book at him. Allot of people will disagree with me I am sure, especially given my very limited experience with firearms. But if your not up to no good and all you want is a basic firearm, why the effing hell would you opt for something home made? a cat a/b license is easy and cheap and you can get a bolt action .22 for a couple hundred or less actually.
As for what the OP has said, I wonder if Ausprep is correct and maybe there is really more to this story than what we have been told? Seriously I bloody hate the idea of people running around with unregistered and disposable weapons but that's just me.

That was obviously before the times of the current counter terrorism laws, if that kid was arrested today he would be up for some sort of terrorism charges and then get a bigger sentence. In the end I believe it all comes down to the persons intent and how much evidence they can gather, which would only be released in front of the courts. Like for instance, this guy in question may have gone on some forums and bragged how he was top shit because he made his own firearm or something along the lines which got him on the radar in which then they have taken a closer look at him. Like for instance, at work 2 mths ago I had 2 contractors bragging to me about how they use homemade pipe bombs to go fishing Now if I dropped that info to crimestoppers at the time, then they would be on the radar

I see where you are coming from Daniel but to be honest with you I would be more than happy to hire that kid and give him a workshop to play in. Obviously there should be a big kick in the ass going his way for what he did, selling home made guns is crazy as you know they are going to be used for the wrong reasons. That kid is lucky he got picked up by the police and not the mafia or other organisations that would turn his passion into their profit.
If the kid has a passion let him explore it under guidelines and make sure he understands what he is doing. I would hire him in a heartbeat but I would also contact local authorities and make sure there where a lot of safety measures put in place. He has talent and passion and still young enough to make an honest living out of it, also still young enough to meet some people in jail and side with them.
