Hi guys and gals, now anyone like myself and wifleberrykins who is addicted to the good ole God given chocolate and cocoa needs to stock up on the stuff quick smart. Due to the ebola spreading, a country in Africa who is the biggest producer of the stuff is shutting down their border to ensure they don't get hit with the nasty beasty. The big problem for that is this: the countries that are currently under ebola are where there workers come from. so prices are going to go up, or stocks are going to be limited.

Interesting, I don't eat a lot of chocolate.. It's not something I really crave like some people. But it's definitely nice occasionally. I've got about 20 single serve packs of M&Ms, a couple bags of fun size snickers bars and a block of cadbury in one of the storage cupboards. That's probably 6months worth of chocolate for me... for my gf that would probably last 72 hours if she knew it was there haha

Also the stuff comes from south America. Stock up but make sure it's ethically sourced and does not involve child slave labour.

Also I just sent the Mrs a mission to go get 2kg of "Loving Earth" Raw Organic Cacao powder. Thank you for the Tip Krull. However don't everyone go into full panic mode, parts of Asia and south America produce Cocoa, it was discussed in the very early days in one of the main Ebola threads.

Yes, also Coffee comes from the same places as Cocoa, it's a climate thing and distance from the equator etc.

What I meant is that is been going around for s few years now and we aren't paying $20 for a 150g of coffee yet, or $5 for a chocolate bar I think the original article claiming it was a little over dramatic Lol. Btw Africa is another big producer of both as well there's a vid on yt showing the cocoa producers tasting chocolate for the first time that was pretty interesting.

Chocolate prices won't effect me, since I'm trying my best to give up the sweet succulent chocolaty flavour

Stock up on some cooking chocolate or dark chocolate, then just melt it and add milk to make milk chocolate. This also doubles the amount of chocolate too.

Take away me chocolate is fighting words, the world would cease to be safe for all of humanity if I lost my chocolate. /end joke (little joke just for asio and the afp).
But on a serious note, the wife and I are stocking up on straight cocoa powder, the 70% dark stuff, you use way less, and it goes a long way. plus we are working on rationing as we go, that way if shtf we are already rationing and making things last as long as possible.

Aawwww XD but I am rather hesitant on the durian Lol. I've heard bad bad things. XD Hmmmm.... haven't heard anything bad about it and I have been eating it my whole life. I have smelled it and yes, it does smell horrendous but so does cheese... Like we say here about Durian: "Tastes like Heaven but Smells like Hell!"... The type we have here beats all the other Durian variants worldwide. Ours is the creamy and juicy type. If you take it out of its shell, put it into a plastic bag, seal it, and freeze it. When you take it out, it would be like eating the creamiest ice cream you have ever tasted... Makes me want to fly down to Davao and have a bite hehehe

Yeah I'm not keen on papaya either! You can thank Andrew Zimmern for that. His description was like "rotten onions mixed with dirty socks" that made my stomach churn. Lol I guess I'll never know until I try it for myself lol

Papaya here smells wonderful so I wonder why it smells bad there. We love Papaya in the house. In the Philippines, we have so many varieties of papaya (from the solo, to the medium, to the big ones).
As to Durian, yes, they stink to the high heavens hehehe
And, of course, our mangoes are to die for... drizzle them with choco syrup served with vanilla ice cream... I think I died and went to heaven haha
