Hi, does anyone know if you can use the heat sealer element of a Vacuum Sealer machine to seal Mylor bags. Also, is it over-kill to vacuum seal a food item and then seal it in a Mylor bag? We are about to start vacuum sealing food stuffs and thought we would utilise the heat sealing element on the vac. machine for the mylor bags. Any advice would be great.

Not sure but would probably be ok heat wise, just need to be able get the mylar bag edges into the sealer unit. You could try using a steam iron to seal the bag but don't use steam setting. Start with a low heat setting and if not sealing adjust upwards to about medium heat; google for more options.
The double sealing process would depend on how long you want to store the food for, mylar bagged food will last longer. Recommend you still use o2 absorbers if using mylar bags and store sealed food in bug/rodent proof air tight container.
Hope this helps

Vacuum sealer will work on your mylar bags without fault, or at least my unit does. Issue is getting the air out of the mylar bag, The STD vac bags will eventually leak over time I am told, so if you use that and then a mylar bag, eventually the air in the mylar bag will spoil your food.
If you can get a bit that fits in the hole where the heating element is and vacuum is applied, and have holes going through its center it seems to work mostly. That is what I have discovered thus far. Been playing around with all of this for a while now.
