Please check local laws before making this.

I believe its legal to make for personal use , but not legal to sell .
Also be careful when making top shelf brews , a by product of stills is methanol if not correctly done , methanol can be fatal

Also Acetone, same deal it is bad for you. Throw away the first few hundred mills and charcoal filter the rest is the advice I have heard.

Would like to have a go at my own spirits at some point, just haven't got there yet. Knew a guy who used to make a bunch of different stuff, some turned pretty good....others not so much

Most alcohol will make you blind eventually all of the supplies are available at your local brewing shop, everything from the stills to the flavourings

Not as serious as moonshine, but I'm trying a dead simple homebrew mead project at the moment. Just honey, yeast, water, some spices... let it ferment in a container for a few weeks and see how it turns out. The honey was crystallised beyond salvage so it was going to waste anyway, so I figured I'd give mead making a try.

Just make sure you wait until it goes crystal clear then try not to disturb the sediment on the bottom of the container as you fill it off into bottles. You could rack it from the primary fermenter into a secondary to leave them behind too. Trust me, any floaty dead yeast hulls in it and it will taste putrid. Good luck and enjoy.

I've LOVED the idea of doing this and I've even got an old guy who would show me how to do it, I have the recipes, a list of equipment, some costings, watched a lot of videos and so on. The methanol isn't an issue when you do it right, that is separate your tops and tails and then perhaps use it for cleaning as it makes a great cleaner! The big problem with this for me is that it's illegal in this state and potentially equivalent to growing drugs in terms of how much trouble you get in. It's probably mostly about tax revenue lost.
