I've never seen this show before but a fellow prepper mate put me onto it, apparently season 2 is pretty good. I'm more wary of torrenting lately, so I checked youtube and it has free episodes of at least season 1. Season 1 Episode 1 - Youtube.I'm 8 minutes in and it seems like it has huge amounts of potential. Anyone watched it and has some thoughts to share?

Yeah watched it a few years back! Watched both seasons on You tube but I am not sure if they are all still up. It was okay but scripted like any of these so called reality shows. You have to have drama in these shows or people get bored.

i have both seasons ... i still prefer the first group.
The second group really needed the scout who popped up in the middle of the season.

Up to episode 6, some of these personalities are really frustrating. Just need a good punch to the face....

Was on a US site tonight - and they were recommending a show called "Naked and Afraid". The reviews were that it dealt with more the psychological side of things, and was much better then the "Doomsday Preppers" series.
I've downloaded a few episodes, and will let you know what I think of it.

Hi guys! Haven't been around much in the last few days as at work on Thursday Hubby collapsed and was taken to hospital with a kidney stone. He was operated on on Friday night. Came home Saturday and has had the day off today as he is still sore as he has had a stent inserted up his penis in readiness for the operation to blast it away next month. When he was booking in the Sister advised him that each time he pees, it will still hurt until it is removed and one of his mates animated to him what that was like, much to Hubby's horror. . Poor thing. No tea or coffee either. I really enjoyed The Colony and I'm going to get it for Hubby for Christmas. I see there is a 2nd season, but unless I get rave reviews, I might give it a miss as I think the scenarios will be similar. Just my opinion. Two things that stood out is that the feministas will need to understand that in a SHTF situation, men will instinctively want to protect the women. It's as natural as women giving birth. Men are created to protect. Women are the nurturers of the children. "Progressive" Society has messed that up though. Women will need to learn not to use the gender card too. In a SHTF situation, heavy manual work will be the norm for men and women will need to learn quick that lifting 44 gallon drums will only cause injury and perhaps hinter the safety of a community by being stubborn. The other thing is to learn a skill. Any skill that will help a family/community. Eg, morse code; knowing how to layer sand and charcoal to filter contaminated water; how to link batteries; a simple solar cooker; a (GASIFIER!!!) ; learn how to understand short wave radio - I actually thought this would be a great thing to get young teens interested in etc. In the situation these people were in maybe stocking up/reading up on natural remedies. In Hubby's situation (and the guy on the show) I believe that apple cider vinegar dissolves kidney stones? if 'endured' daily!! And one more thing the amount of weight they lost was staggering over such a short time. I have since thought about clothes. It took no time at all for their clothes to be like rags. Maybe stockpiling natural fabric (cottons, wool flannel, etc) and the old paper patterns (that I learnt how to sew from) and basic knitting patterns and wool. This is a whole range of other skill sets that are dying out. Knitting and sewing. These items would be good to barter with too. BTW I'm putting away those cheap eye glasses you buy as spares. Or, if you go to have your eyes tested - covered under Medicare - you can ask for the script without buying your glasses there. Then buy them online. Soooo cheap. Just make sure the pupil distance is on the script as the optometrist often will leave this measurement off. www.ausspecs.com.au/all-about-glasses/prescription/prescription.php Overall I think The Colony was excellent and I got quite a lot from it. Thanks for recommending it!

I liked them. A little silly at times and staying bunkered in without some kind of patrolling seemed a little silly to me in a realistic situation, some of the personalities were out there but hey it's a show. I have watched pretty much every survivor type show that doesn't include a vote off the island, from the walking dead to surviorman, there's always something of interest in them, even if it's fantasy due to the 'what would I do in that situation'. Some recent shows that I have liked are; "Live free or die" - people living fairly simply, interesting. "Life below zero" - people living in the Arctic circle, have to have supplies for the winter and basically they prep every year. I've started getting into '299 days' - Glen Tate which is interesting thus far [into second book], not really telling anything new as such, but has some useful thoughts along the way. I also like historical accounts of events as learning from how humans respond is perhaps the most truthful of all information.
