Does anyone have any experience with "all-terrain" tyres for 4x4's? FYI I'm looking at them for general use (ie mostly on sealed roads, sand, etc) but if things go bad I may need to drive over rural land. I don't see any reason I'd need to bug out over very rough terrain unless there's a massive earthquake or the like.

I've had good luck running maxxis 751 AT tyres. Good on road, not noisy plenty of grip, and also good for off-road and sand. well priced as well, I got a full set for under $700

Had cheap Silverstone ATs on my Cruiser when I bought it and managed to get about nearly 80,000kms out of them. Bit noisy, but good grip. Changed over to Goodyear Wranglers late last year. Very happy with them, better on road then the Silverstones and no noise. Haven't tried them out proper 4wding yet, but they seem pretty good with the little I have done with them so far.

I run Mickey T, Baja MTZ. 31in I think.
They're a bit noisey on roads, though not as bad as some others. However they'll go well in the majority of all but the worst offroad driving.

I've heard good stuff about the Maxxis tyres as well. A couple of the guys I hunt with have them and they are off-raod a fair bit.

I have been through 2 sets of Maxxis bighorns, Great tyres, they do get a little noisy near the end of there life but its bearable. I am now running the Hankook full mud. I have a mate with a tyre shop and he said I should give them a go and compare to the maxis, So far they are going great, they are very quite compared to the maxis at the same time of there life. I have only had I punture that I plugged when out doing a trip to Uluru. they plug is still in there and has not lost any pressure. My mate that has they tyre shop said I will get better km out of the hankooks. They also do a very good all terrain that I have put on three of my mates trucks that I work on.
