Sure thing man, I totally agree with what you have just said, but what you said in the first place is why I had to point out what I did about quality and price difference. Remember the old advert on Telly about the Mafia and Engine oil??? OILS AINT OILS BORRRSSSS!! Like tyres.........there are tyres, and then there are fkn Tyres! LoL
Put up some pictures of your blades bud, give us a looksee.

First three I found that aren't in bags/my car. Left and middle I got in a 2 for 1 deal and imitate some Michigan Knives designs I believe. Right I have no idea who I got it off, probably had it for almost 8 years, use it for chopping wood when I'm camping. My other knives in my bags and my car are in a style similar to the right.

Agree with you there BRT , any knife is a survival knife in a survival situation and you dont have to spend big money to get something decent to get the job done and of course there are a heap of different reasons behind the choice of any knife , affordability and use the two big ones , in most situations you are 100% the 18 dollar knife will get the job done but in saying that there are a few situations when i think its pretty justified spending a larger portion of your budget on the blade you carry ,bugging out your knife is a pretty big lynch pin in a kit , if you can't replace it easily or at all quality becomes an issue ,

(and if we ever go camping, be warned, you might just "lose" that machete.... just sayin XD hehehehehe)

My new knife came in the mail on Friday so i took it out for a test run. I was looking at a few different knives that i could use for fine work as well as chopping. I looked at Gerber, Fallkniven and Tom browns tracker. I couldnt justify the cost of some of these knives, some of them close to three hundred bucks. Then i happened to see a youtube clip on the Schrade extreme survival knife. The size was right, It was full tang. The groove just under the handle allowed me to choke right up close on the blade for fine work. It has a heavy weight to it which i like and the micarta grip feels good in either hand. The cordura sheath has leg ties and a strong thick protective insert for the knife as well as a pouch on the front for my ferro rod. The overseas price is 40 bucks but shipping bumped it up to the oz price of eighty bucks. So for a little more i decided to support an Aussie business. All that for $80 from Blade Brothers in South Australia. Schrade SCHF3N Extreme Survival Fixed Blade Knife. It features a black coated drop point steel blade. The full-tang design is coupled with grooved Micarta scales. Handle has a deep finger pattern and jimping on the spine for secure grip. Black nylon sheath with a plastic insert included. Overall length: 11.8; Blade length: 6.4"; Handle length: .6"; Blade material: 400 stainless steel; Weight: 10.1 ozs.

@gaz (or anyone) Re Cold Steel, can they be bought in Oz? A lot of their gear seems like something that would have issues in customs.
I've been a knife nut since day one and used to throw pretty well in a previous life. I don't have much now, the only large one is a Gerber machete, same as the one in Wayne's and Jason's pics (with the saw back) but longer. It's nice and I use the saw a fair bit (clearing lantana) but I'm not keen on the handle because it tapers to the rear and to my mind that makes it more likely to fly from my hand, not that that's ever happened.

Loving the katanas & throwing knives! Hubby and I have a few throwing knives, I'm a terrible shot but he's not bad. He also has an old crappy katana that he uses for trimming hedges (scares the bejesus out of the neighbours) and our occasional game of fruit ninja

Yes GN, I got mine at a gun shop in NSW! they had ordered it for some one and got an extra one! But sat in the display case for 2 years... I get my knives from these guys: www.cuttingedgeknives.com.au/index.phpAnd my Japanese wet stones from: www.kizlyarknifestore.com.au/

So I'm a bit of a knife junkie, but I've spent the last little while trying to get the horde down to a manageable number that would all serve well in a SHTF/TEOTWAWKI scenario, and just for everyday too. Here's a few: Busse Team Gemini Light Brigade (as seen/used in Walking Dead) Swamp Rat Ratmandu Scrapyard Scrapper 5LE Scrapyard Knifeworks (SYKCO) 511, Fallkniven S1 custom, Fallkniven F1 custom x2 Zero Tolerance 0550 Ontario Rat-1 And my EDC setup, Ontario Rat-1, Leatherman Wave (recently replaced with a Charge TTi), and Victorinox Super Tinker

There was some talk in the Shoutbox a couple of nights back about tomahawks. Here are my pair. The larger one is the SOG Tactical Tomahawk, the other is the SOG Fasthawk. I like 'em both although prefer the larger one. Apparently the Fasthawk throws really well but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

I've got quite a collection... I'll be flogging some Chinese folders on here soon though. Having a cull, need to generate funds for other purposes
