When the world goes to hell in a hand basket you are going to want a good knife on your hip , whether it be the daily user you know like an old friend or a safe baby only to broken out in the case of zombies , what are you going to grab when it goes down and why ? and what would you grab if money was no option , feel free to leave multiple choices if you haven't finalized the decision yet , i know i haven't ! , So i guess you could call my every day user my Kabar 1211 , i have a a bit of a collection of kabars going so i swap them out to test them but the 1211 is my go to knife when i am out in the bush , and the one i am most likely to have if i ever get lost out there , I always take a couple at least a fixed blade and a folder with me but we can get on to that latter , i choose the 1211 its a lot more knife then the 90 odd bucks you pay for , beat the hell out of it and it laps up the punishment , there are probably better knives out there but for me kabar has a proven track history great design and quality for under 100 bucks , some say its too big for fine bush crafting work and to a point that may be true it could be a little clumsier then a 5-6 inch blade in some tasks but for me anyway it makes up for that with heft and utility in spades , i like the insurance of that extra weight and length when i am in the middle of nowhere , the 1095 i a great steel as well , easy to sharpen .holds a good edge and takes a beating , there are "better" steels out there but again quality v price Uploaded with ImageShack.usMy zombie apocalypse safe baby would at the moment be my Zu Bladeworx scout , Man i love this knife hahah , i would never use it though ! could never take something that nice out into the bush and just screw around with it , but if SHTF i am breaking the bad boy out for those who might not know this maker he is an Aussie , his stuff is kinda expensive but in my opinion bullet proof and over built , everything he does is machined out of a single piece of A2 tool , the pics dont do it justice Uploaded with ImageShack.usif money was no option i would buy a Busse Argonne assault www.bussecombat.com/argonne-assault-lb/ or the team gemini if the aussie laws deemed that one a bit to kick ass

Holy crap - that Argonne Assault knife is insane!
At the moment my 'go to knife' would be my SOG Tech Bowie. Howerver, in a hiking situation I simply carry a Mora Clipper, just because of the weight and size. Not sure what I would get if money permitted, as I haven't really done much research. But that one you linked sure looks nice haha

This is going to be an unpopular opinion. Fair warning.
Chinese cheap knives are just as good as more reputable brands, in my experience as long as it's full tang. I wouldn't trust anything chinese when it comes to folding knives but I don't use folding knives anyway so that's redundant. I'd find the brand of my knives but it wouldn't mean anything to anyone because they're obscure.
I've used my knives to cut down trees as thick as my head, I've used them to fillet fish, I've put them through 3 separate weeks of everyday camping use with no sign of losing the edge on the blade.
They have all cost me less than $18 with free postage. A downside is the 3 weeks postage, but if the world holds on until then, you'll be okay.
If you want to see pictures then I'll retrieve one from my car or something, but the moral is don't pay a ridiculous price for a brand name. I'm not saying all cheap knives are worth it but don't get snobby.

I have bought two knives from china and had two very different results , the kabar copy i had snapped like a twig at the hilt , just woeful but the tracker copy i got is a workhorse ,only issue was the handle coming a bit lose , i rehandled her and now she is back to chopping through anything but it put me off buying knives from unknown factories Uploaded with ImageShack.us I guess it all goes back to price v quality v usability ,i know my zu is a quality knife but i leave it at home and dont use it because of the how much it cost me , the kabar for me is a good balance , I know the quality i am getting when i get it and its not so expensive that am worried about scratching it ,the tracker copy i abuse , badly as it only cost me $30

Bloody Knife addicts!! LoL How could you Not love a Great knife? Bigred, I understand what you're saying and in a way do appreciate it however, I see a lack of experience coming from what you're saying about 18 dollar knives being just as good as say.....500 dollar knives. In this picture there is one Shit knife amongst the lot of them and it's the biggest one. Two of them are Army issued knives, one being a Buck Bayonet the other a combat knife. The heavy bladed S30V Steel Tanto point with Micarta handle is a custom knife that I watched get made and payed a fortune for it. The blade is that strong and thick that it breaks through concrete and brick without damage to the point or pitting in the metal. I can assure you that there is no chance of an 18 dollar knife being able to perform or last like this knife will & does. I have used this knife on operations (ICAT) Twice and both times it served me unfailingly and stood up to extreme punishment such as egressing from a trench through a brick wall to safety after being mortared and shot at by Taliban and hacking through a steel armoured engine cover of a mack truck to help a mech fix a diesel pump after the truck crashed into a VBIED. I have had my handle replaced recently as it had a burnt blood & bone smell that I could not get rid of and it drove me mental! The Buck Bayonet has taken extreme punishment on the end of an M4 in training and on operations. I have snapped standard issue Bayonets before but never seen a Buck broken in it's intended use. Another good example of High cost for High Quality. The big fella is a RAMBO 3 bowie and it's just a cheap charlie Chinese special that was always intended simply for sitting on my TV unit in the theatre room as a Wankwank prop for display! I was Effing about on the wallop a few months ago on a stab board that I have for knife training and decided it would be a good idea to put the old $36 Rambo 3 knife through it's paces and the first lunge that was done bent the tip so evidently that I have to point the knife away from it's observer in my theatre room now so you dont see the big bent tip! LoL This is what to expect from cheap knives. Like I said I see your point for sure and agree you can use them hack trees and cut rope and sticks etc ect, but at the end of the day I bet you my life that a 500 dollar knive with S30V or 154CM steel will have an edge and less damage to it after the same heavy use than a cheap Chinese one would. Horses for course though yeh!?? Im sure that you probably would not expect from the knives you're talking about the same as what I expect from my knives.

Wayno how good are you at throwing those little fellas??? Casey Ryback good or just good!?
Gerber Multitools are simple but effective and reliable. I still have one that the old bastard gave me when I was 16 and the only thing wrong with it is the hollow on the blade that's been produced from me sharpening it to death over the last 20 years LoL

Haven't really tried much else with them to be honest. Definitely no Ryback though lol. I currently have a Gerber Dime tactical and a LMF ii on there way to me. Will post pics once there here. I also have my version of your Rambo wank factor. Mines a Winchester though. As you can see by the Stanley knife, its pretty big lol. Straight to the pool room for this one lol.

Nate, if you want to shout me a $500 knife mate, you're more than welcome! What I'm saying is it's better to have something now than nothing, trying to save up for an expensive knife because as everyone knows, the more money you save, the more shit happens (eg car breaking down, washing machine crapping out). I've had good experiences with some chinese knives and as you said, there may be a bit of surprise factor because I expected them to be crap. If you don't get given knives in the army and you can't afford a $500 knife, don't be afraid to experiment with some chinese knives.
