One of the best feelings Rob is not having to be dependant upon anyone and prepping, as someone on the board said is an insurance policy against world conditions. The gimme mentality has become so ingrained and weening people off it will be impossible. The following was taken from SHTFplan only today. This from shtfplan.com www.shtfplan.com/headline-news/report-the-gravy-train-is-over-for-welfare-recipients-earn-your-keep-or-go-hungry_02032015Report: The Gravy Train Is Over For Welfare Recipients: ‘Earn Your Keep or Go Hungry’ For those who are tired of seeing their hard earned money forcibly seized by the government and redistributed to those who refuse to contribute anything of value to society. Even the staunchest of conservatives and libertarians understands that a civilised society needs to provide some level of support for those who are sick, disabled, or simply going through a rough period like losing a job. Americans are a generous people and for the most part we’re all willing to chip in to make our country a better place. But we can all probably agree that within the social programs designed to provide for the truly needy there also exist hundreds of thousands of people who have made a career out of taking advantage of our good nature and living off government subsistence. These people are able-bodied and fully capable of performing labor of some kind, but like one woman who recently called in to an Austin radio show, they prefer to sit at home because they know they are “still gonna get paid.” ******* I get to sit home… I get to go visit my friends all day… I even get to smoke weed… *******Me and people that I know that are illegal immigrants that don’t contribute to society, we still gonna get paid. ********Our check’s gonna come in the mail every month… and it’s gonna be on time… and we get subsidized housing… we even get presents delivered for our kids on Christmas… Why should I work? But life for people like this woman may soon undergo drastic changes. IN THE STATE OF MAINE, it’s time for those who have been collecting welfare and providing the taxpayers nothing in return to get to work. A law passed in 2008 was put on hold because of the recession and high unemployment, but the governor has reinstated it and is now moving to force at least 6,000 of the state’s welfare recipients to either get a job or go hungry. Mad World News reports: It’s the end of the road for over 6,000 childless, able-bodied residents who have enjoyed regular free food on the taxpayer dollar. The Maine Department of Health and Human Services just told them it’s time to get up and do something to earn their keep or go hungry. The state will now impose a work requirement on welfare recipients without dependents, which must be fulfilled in order to receive food stamps. All adults without a disability must have to actually work for food, volunteer twenty hours per week, or enroll in an employment training program if they want to ensure their EBT card (Electronic Benefits Transfer) is loaded each month. People under the age of 18 and over 50 are excluded from that law. “We must continue to do all that we can to eliminate generational poverty and get people back to work,” Governor Paul LePaige said in a statement on the decision. “We must protect our limited resources for those who are truly in need and who are doing all they can to be self-sufficient.” Welfare leeches have experienced a double whammy so far this year. First, an investigation found that free Obamaphone programs are plagued with rampant fraud and are soon to be reformed. And now, if you have two working arms and legs you actually have to get a job to earn money for food. Families and the elderly who receive the benefits will not be affected. The law only applies to individuals without dependents who have no disabilities, like for example, the woman from Austin who enjoys time on the couch smoking weed with her friends all day – weed that’s probably been purchased with your tax dollars. But Maine’s new policy isn’t popular for some people who have gotten used to free money: The entitlement mentality riddled with pathetic excuses for lazy behavior is particularly evident from Maine resident Melania, who whined about how she was particularly disturbed by the news that she would have to do something in order to receive her special “expensive” food. “I was just so upset after I got the phone call. It was a cushion especially for me because I have dietary restrictions; I have a lot of them, and the food is very expensive,” she explained. One commentor pointed out that working Americans who are seeing their paychecks dwindle because of high taxes forced upon them in the name of people like Melania also have restrictions to which they must adhere: “I have dietary restrictions also, I am restricted to the food I can afford.” Maine’s new policy, though unpopular with some, is a common sense requirement for those receiving temporary assistance from the government. If you don’t work, you don’t eat. It’s a natural law of survival.

I helped administer 'work for the dole' in a previous career. It's fraught with danger. Employers will prefer to use cheaper work for the dole labour than paid employees. Would you like to have your job axed because your employer can get the same work done on the work for the dole scheme? IMO a better option is to provide incentive to welfare recipients by making a large part of their payments in debit cards, only to be used for groceries. The govt hasd been toying with this idea for years, but lacks the political courage to implement it. There are always unintended consequences. I agree that the dole should be x% in coupons for food, is that what EBT cards are in the US?

When the re are enough jobs for all to be employed yes go hard on the unemployed!
But when politicians and capitolists engineer a percentage of unemployment to keep those employed worried about job security and thus quiet! Why punish those in the unemployed percentage??
Maybe a premium should be levied on those capitolists to pay the unemployed!
I see no point in blaming and punishing the unemployed for being in that percentage!
would you give them your job? no I think not!
The capitolists get a labour control device and the taxpayer pays! great if you are the capitalist!

Politicians may well rig the market, but capitalists [sic] (such as myself) want people to be employed. Why? So we throw less of our hard-earned money into taxes to support them. My experience as an employer are that many people simply do not want to work. I am happy to invite you to my office the next time we look for staff and you can see the attitude of many "applicants". As for levying a premium on capitalists, there are a number of places you can shove that idea, none of which you're likely to find enjoyable.

With resent events and now another country stating they are joining the USA in their war means WW3 is event closer (some say it has already kicked off). The world of finance isn't pretty, never really has been however it is at a pretty bad low point now.
What happens, happens! there is no real way of stopping anything from going down the path it is, my main concern is keeping my family safe while it is all going down so we can walk away from it all. The biggest threat is other people who are not ready for this, they will turn to crime very fast. If the country is invaded there is little you can do unless you have a bunker to ride it out. Trying to take on an army by yourself is a sure way to get yourself killed, making sure you can ride it all out is a smart thing to do in my view.
Living in the suburbs is an issue, I was speaking with my wife last night about other locations we can buy land and bulk other bunkers. The biggest issue is knowing when to leave as our current location isn't very traffic friendly. Triggers/signs need to be identified and used to make the call to leave, for example a resent event near us was a sign to get out of here.
Nothing ended up following that event however it didn't bother us, just means we could take a nice drive for a while. The point is you can go crazy thinking "is this it" and worrying about if you leave will people think you are crazy or will you look stupid if it turns out to be nothing. Who cares, just go you can always go back.
In our case it was a bomb at a shopping center, it had the potential to get worse so we left, no big issue! I nice drive, stop at a restaurant for a meal, catchup on the news and head back home. We lost nothing, no one knew why we left, in reality why would anyone know. The neighbors don't come over every time we go out and ask where we have been so who would know why we left?
And it ended up being a nice drive ending in a nice meal! So set some limits, if X happens or X type of event happens you leave!
And another point is don't be worried about moving and leaving an area you like. We love where we live now however in reality it comes with risk, we have plenty of escape routes, we have plenty of supplies however with the latest event it simply isn't worth it. The wife loves the shopping mall the event took place however at the end of the day the new location also has a shopping mall, not as nice however still a mall however it is also in an area that has very little chance of anything happening.
Our preps should see us through the next war, if they don't! shit really did hit the fan and I wouldn't want to be around to see the result! Speak with your family and set out some rules and signs, if X happens meet here and we will go!

The capitolists get a labour control device and the taxpayer pays! great if you are the capitalist! Ok normally I would say respect every ones views and no need to knock anyone for their views on things, in this case! are you kidding me arkane? What world are you living in? there are plenty of jobs out there and there are plenty of people that are unemployed that simply don't want to work because the get handouts from the government. I hate to break it to you but the unemployed are the first ones that are either going to die in a SHTF situation or quickly turn to crime, why? there are no handouts in a SHTF situation, either you grow your own food and look after yourself or you are going to die. I am pretty sure the prepper community isn't going to setup a "Centrelink" after SHTF to support lazy people. Yes there are people on disability, that is where a community comes together and supports them if they are not able to do any work. Just because a person is in a wheel chair doesn't mean they can't get out in the field and harvest. Make a 4 wheel bike low to the ground with hand peddles, they can now contribute. To me, if you are on unemployment benefits you should be growing your own food and looking after yourself. If you really can't find work you are not looking! simple, because there is plenty of work out there it is just work you don't want to do. So if you are unemployed and fit to work, get off your ass, stop putting your hand out for my and every other workers tax money and contribute to the community. If you are on benefits and have the ability to work, bloody work or at least grow your own food. I have no sympathy for the unemployed, homeless and others that have put themselves in these types of situations. May sound harsh but here is reality for you. Me, left school at 14, moved out of home at 14, lived on the streets for a while then got off my ass and worked. I have worked jobs that I had no interest in, why because I wanted to eat. I am the only reason I have what I have today, not the bloody centrelink office or me putting my hand out. So if you are ing because you are unemployed get a bloody job and stop spending my tax money on prepper shit when you should be earning your own money to do that. And that isn't just me being mean, that is me trying to help you because like I said before, there is no centrelink in a SHTF situation, there is only you!

following up on my last post, because I am sure there are going to be people thinking it. I believe in charity, I give more to charity each year than most people earn in a year, however! If a person is walking around the street holding up a tin for saying I need food, I don't give them any money, if someone is able to walk around the streets holding up a tin they are able to go to the homeless shelter, get some homeless magazines and sell them to make some money (all the money they make from selling those magazines goes to them). If they are able to walk the streets they are able to get a job harvesting. There are a lot of scammers out there that walk around asking for donations because they are broke, and there are a lot of these people that jump into their sports car at the end of the day and go home. I don't like giving people money, I do like giving people that need assistance food however I love giving them opportunities to look after themselves. So I do care, I do like to help others, I don't like bludgers. To me someone who unemployed should be living a good life if they are growing their own food and fending for themselves. That is unemployment to me, nothing wrong with that if you are supporting yourself. Unemployment where you are putting your hand out expecting money so you can go to the shops and buy everything and live a consumer life is simply lazy and should be classed as steeling. And if you are thinking "what about paying rent", why would you need to pay rent? if your not wanting to work to earn money you shouldn't expect to be living in a house! Go live in the bush and survive on your own if you don't want to contribute to the community. If you are between jobs, yep that sucks and I have no issues with centrelink paying out money to people between jobs as long as it is no longer than 6 months. Because that is enough time for anyone to find work, may not be a job they want to do however it is a job. To me, someone who is living in the bush or the outback that is just supporting themselves and not going to work everyday has a much better and healthier life than a 9-5 worker. However in the consumer world there are not a lot of people that have the guts to do that. So yes I care, I believe there are good reasons for people to need some assistance from centrelink however it is being taken advantage of and is so far away from what it was intended for. And if you are a long term unemployed person you are not a prepper, you are nothing but a bludger and the type of person I am prepping to ensure doesn't steel my stuff and I know a lot of preppers that view people like that in the same way. Long term unemployed in a SHTF situation are the ones that will look for the "short cuts" and the easy way out. If someone came to my property and was in a wheel chair in a SHTF situation I would take them in and help them, I would expect them to do what they can to assist. If someone came to my property that I knew was long term unemployed I would send them away with nothing. May seem cold however they have to learn some how and I have no time for people that just want to put their hand out. Your post arkane doesn't make any sense, there are enough jobs for all. There is also enough land in Australia for people to go a live in the bush and fend for themselves. They will not be living in the suburbs, next to a beach or in areas that people that contribute to the community are living, it will be in places that are not convenient for someone who wants to live in the consumer world, however those places are ideal for someone who wants to stay away from the consumer way of life and fend for themselves. Basically those places are a preppers paradise, and a consumers worst nightmare.

Almost need a new thread. I have worked in the area of disability and people in need. There are various levels of help required. From $ to a kick up the arse. I don't know the % of people who don't genuinely try to get a job, but the media seem to find people that just don't want to work for the inconvenience. I have sourced supported accomodation for people who were disappointed that the flat did not have an ensuite. The solution is not easy, go really hard or take a social soft approach. Neither will work without complicated background support. If we could ensure children had established work ethics and there were areas to employ them. We would be on the right track.

Pete I am sorry you fail to comprehend my post, I am unable to help there! Full employment produces wage inflation and employers don't like that!
When there are 12 million employable people and the powers that be fix it so there are only 11.5 million jobs There is going to be half a million always unemployed! For any of that half million to get a job they must displace another worker! That's the reality of it in a nutshell Cant get your head around that, that's on you! I can't help you there.
Yes it will breed some career bludgers but that becomes a job in itself they take pride in what they don't do!
I have been around long enough now to have seen it all and recognise it for what it is! Worker control!

"If we could ensure children had established work ethics and there were areas to employ them. We would be on the right track." All of my older children had jobs from the early teens, and have consistently been in work since, they all have good work ethics and would often go in to work to cover for people who had called in sick! They have proven they are employable and hard workers. We didn't given them pocket money they had to work for what they wanted! My five year old today told me that she didn't want to help me in the house because she was not the mother! Haha, I had to tell her that if she wanted nice things etc that she had a responsibility to help out, small things like making her bed and setting the table for dinner! Even at this young age they can be taught a good work ethic!
