This is a thread to honour the legend of ANZAC - to respect and remember not only the 100th year anniversary of Anzac day, but to remember those on the Western Front, the Middle East, and those who fought in the Pacific and Africa.
This is NOT to be a political thread or a thread on your opinion of war - it is a thread to remember and honour those who left our shores, those who never returned, those who did return.
They shall not grow old As we who are left grow old Age shall not weary them Nor the years condemn At the going down of the sun And in the morning WE WILL REMEMBER THEM!!!
This is a thread just to say "Thankyou".

Well done Jay. I have an uncle buried in France I never got to know. For those that haven't been to the Canberra War Memorial/Museum well worthwhile, very educational and sobering experience. Real eye opener for my daughter and her boyfriend when we went two years ago.

I remember visiting the museum when I was a kid living in Canberra! I was so fascinated by the models with the little toy soldiers!

The Australian War memorial,as part of the ANZAC Centenary are going to project(several times) all the names of the 62 000 fallen diggers one at a time onto the façade of the Hall of Memory at the Australian War Memorial.

Lest we Forget . While the Equipment and uniforms may change , the Digger Spirit does not .

The full Ode:
Ode of Remembrance
With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children, England mourns for her dead across the sea. Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit, Fallen in the cause of the free.
Solemn the drums thrill: Death august and royal, Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres. There is music in the midst of desolation, And a glory that shines upon her tears.
They went with songs to the battle, they were young. Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted, They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.
They mingle not with their laughing comrades again; They sit no more at familiar tables at home; They have no lot in our labour of the daytime; They sleep beyond England's foam.
But where our desires are and our hopes profound, Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight, To the innermost heart of their own land they are known, As the stars are known to the night.
As the stars will be bright when we are dust, Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain; As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness, To the end, to the end, they remain.

Today, I attended the Dawn service at Ceduna, on the west coast of SA. I'd say over 500 attended. All ages - babies to the elderly.
It's good that the spirit of Anzac lives on.
Frostbite, you are spot on - about 7-8 yrs ago I was at Singleton barracks doing a course, and the Dawn service there was one of the best I have ever attended - it was also the day after the digger was killed in Iraq, accidently, so there was a very real sobering atmosphere.
